Ionic Liquids as Carbene Catalyst Precursors in the One-Pot Four-Component Assembly of Oxo Triphenylhexanoates (OTHOs) [PDF]
Ionic liquids (ILs) are a convenient and inexpensive source of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs). In this study, dialkyl imidazolium-based ILs are used as carbene precursors in a four-component synthesis of oxo triphenylhexanoates (OTHOs), where it was ...

Silencing CHALCONE SYNTHASE in maize impedes the incorporation of tricin into lignin and increases lignin content [PDF]
Lignin is a phenolic heteropolymer that is deposited in secondary-thickened cell walls, where it provides mechanical strength. A recent structural characterization of cell walls from monocot species showed that the flavone tricin is part of the native ...

Berberine and cinnamaldehyde together prevent lung carcinogenesis
Starving tumor cells by restricting nutrient sources is a promising strategy for combating cancer. Because both berberine and cinnamaldehyde can activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK, a sensor of cellular energy status), we investigated whether the combination of berberine and cinnamaldehyde could synergistically prevent lung carcinogenesis ...

ABSTRACT The gill parasite Sparicotyle chrysophrii poses a significant threat to gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) aquaculture in the Mediterranean, causing considerable mortality and economic losses. As traditional chemotherapeutic treatments, like formalin, face growing regulatory restrictions, there is an urgent need for alternative control ...

This study proposes the upcycling of oriental melon (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) stems, typically discarded as agricultural waste, into a bioactive extract with functional potential. CMSE ameliorates high‐fat‐diet‐induced obesity and fatty liver, contributing to the restoration of metabolic health by enhancing the expression of thermogenesis‐related ...

This study developed purslane seed oil–tarragon essential oil (PO–TE) nanocapsules using gum Arabic (GA) and whey protein isolate (WPI) as wall materials. The co‐encapsulation significantly enhanced oxidative stability, antimicrobial activity, and polyunsaturated fatty acid retention in beef burgers during refrigerated storage.
