Diversity Patterns of Domestic Herbivore Viruses in China Reveal Transmission Dynamics with Disease Management Implications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 32, 9 June 2026.
This study performs pan‐viromic profiling of 14,529 samples from 5,710 domestic herbivores across five Chinese provinces, establishing the DhCN‐Virome (1,085,360 viral metagenomes). It reveals species/sample‐specific viromic signatures and cross‐species transmission dynamics, aiding unified disease control.

Phylogenetic tree of circoviruses.

open access: yes, 2013
A region of 90 amino at the 3′ end of the circoviruses polymerase gene was selected for sequence comparison analysis. Other sequences were downloaded from the GOS and the NCBI databases.

Genomic characterization of novel circular ssDNA viruses from insectivorous bats in Southern Brazil.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Circoviruses are highly prevalent porcine and avian pathogens. In recent years, novel circular ssDNA genomes have recently been detected in a variety of fecal and environmental samples using deep sequencing approaches. In this study the identification of

A novel kirkovirus may be associated with equine gastrointestinal disease

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 2, Page 414-422, March 2026.
Abstract Background Many cases of equine enterocolitis are suspected to be infectious in nature, but no pathogen is identified in many cases. Objectives Perform next‐generation sequencing on faeces collected from cases of equine enterocolitis for the presence of novel viruses and determine if an identified novel virus is associated with cases of equine

Multiplex PCR for Detection and Typing of Porcine Circoviruses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1999
ABSTRACT Sets of oligonucleotide primers were designed according to the sequences of the open reading frames (ORFs) ORF1 and ORF2 of the prototype nonpathogenic PK-15 strain of porcine circovirus (PCV) type 1 (PCV-1). By the PCR performed with the various primer sets, genomic DNA or RNA from other bacterial or viral pathogens of the ...

Emergence of novel circoviruses in humans and pigs and their possible importance for xenotransplantation and blood transfusions [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: As sequencing is becoming more broadly available, virus discovery continues. Small DNA viruses contribute to up to 60% of the overall virus load in pigs. Porcine circoviruses (PCVs) are small DNA viruses with a single‐stranded circular genome.

Xenotransplantation Literature Update: July–December 2025

open access: yesXenotransplantation, Volume 33, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT The second half of 2025 marked a significant transition for xenotransplantation, shifting further from experimental feasibility to early clinical translation. Prolonged physiologic support from genetically engineered porcine kidneys and livers in human recipients provided unprecedented insight into organ compatibility, rejection dynamics, and ...

Development of Magnetic Particle–Based Chemiluminescence Immunoassays for Detecting PCV2 VLP‐ and Rep‐Specific Antibodies and Their Combined Use for Immune Evaluation and Replication‐Associated Exposure Assessment

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) remains a major swine pathogen, and interpretation of capsid protein (Cap)–based serology is challenging in vaccinated populations because vaccine‐induced Cap antibodies overlap with replication‐associated serological signals.

Unveiling Novel Viral Diversity, Biogeography, and Host Networks in Wildlife Through High‐Throughput Sequencing Data Mining

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 46, December 11, 2025.
Analysis of 57 536 high‐throughput sequencing datasets uncovers a vast, hidden world of viruses in wildlife. The researchers reveal significant geographic and host‐specific patterns of viruses, and their surprising cross‐species transmissions, such as avian flu viruses infecting goats.
