Thin-Walled Circular Cylinders

1975
A thin ring loaded by radial compressive forces would buckle with two waves around the circumference, Fig.3.1. The same is valid for a thin-walled tube, the edges of which can deform freely. These, however, are only mental experiments.

Vibrations of Free Hollow Circular Cylinders

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1986
A series solution of the general three-dimensional equations of linear elasticity is developed and used to find accurate natural frequencies for the vibration of hollow elastic circular cylinders with traction free surfaces. The series solution is found to converge to accurate frequencies with the use of very few terms.

Stereology of parallel, straight, circular cylinders

Journal of Microscopy, 1976
SUMMARYNew stereological formulae are developed to quantify an array of straight, parallel, circular cylinders. The problem arose through the necessity to determine the average length and surface density of the crypts of the large intestine. These crypts or glands have the shape of test tubes.

Base Pressure of Oscillating Circular Cylinders

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1976
Experiments have been made to investigate the base pressure coefficients of circular cylinders oscillating transversely in a stream for a wide range of cylinder amplitudes and frequencies. This is thought to give a good indication of the variation in drag coefficient.

Nozzle jet flow-induced vibration of single circular cylinders and twin circular cylinders

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1993
Abstract This study is an experimental investigation of the vibration phenomena of circular cylinders installed in a tube when they are subject to a cross-flow discharged through a nozzle hole of the outer tube. The objectives of this study are (1) to clarify the flow-induced vibration phenomena of the circular cylinders, (2) to obtain vortex ...

Spanwise wake structures of a circular cylinder and two circular cylinders in tandem

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 1994
Abstract The structure of wakes downstream of cylinders is of major importance in the generation of flow-induced sound and vibration and also influences the convective heat transfer process. In particular, it is now thought that the formation of spanwise structures plays an important role.

CIRCULAR SHEARING OF COMPRESSIBLE ELASTIC CYLINDERS

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1993
Summary: We consider the problem of circular shearing for compressible isotropic, homogeneous, hyperelastic right circular cylinders. First we consider the case of pure circular shearing where there is no radial displacement. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the strain-energy function of the material for the existence of such a ...

Viscous flow past circular cylinders

Computers & Fluids, 1973
Abstract Accurate and efficient calculation of the flow around a circular cylinder are presented for Reynolds number from 1 to 40 (based on the diameter). The semi-analytical method of series truncation is used to express the stream function and the vorticity in a finite Fourier series.

Cylinders and Circular Plates

2009
The bounded harmonic potentials of equations (24.27) in combination with solutions A, B and E provide a complete solution to the problem of a solid circular cylinder loaded by axisymmetric polynomial tractions on its curved surfaces. The corresponding problem for the hollow cylinder can be solved by including also the singular potentials of equation ...
