Circular Dichroism (CD) and Magnetic Circular Dichroism (MCD)

1986
For reasons given in Chapter 7, ultraviolet and visible light absorption measurements offer very little information of a selective nature. Two other methods which use light in this wavelength range, optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) and circular dichroism (CD), provide evidence of a structural/stereochemical nature, although to gain such insight it is ...

Infrared Circular Dichroism and Linear Dichroism Spectrophotometer

Applied Optics, 1975
An instrument for the measurement of circular dichroism (CD) between 5000 cm(-1) and 750 cm(-1) is described. This instrument also can perform high precision linear dichroism measurements in the same wavelength range. A germanium photoelastic modulator having a large linear and angular aperture is used to vary the polarization of monochromatic ir light

Circular dichroism and magnetic circular dichroism of Azotobacter vinelandii ferredoxin I

Biochemistry, 1991
Room temperature circular dichroism (CD) and low temperature magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of air-oxidized and dithionite-reduced Azotobacter vinelandii ferredoxin I (FdI), a [( 4Fe-4S]2+/1+, [3Fe-4S]1+/0) protein, are reported. Unlike the CD of oxidized FdI, the CD of dithionite-reduced FdI exhibits significant pH dependence, consistent ...

Circular dichroism of squid rhodopsin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1968
Abstract The linkage between 11- cis retinal and opsin in squid rhodopsin was studied by means of the measurement of circular dichroism (CD). The CD revealed by 11- cis retinal when bound with opsin is probably derived from the stereospecific interaction between them.

Magnetic circular dichroism and circular dichroism of some nucleosides.

Nucleic acids symposium series, 1981
The magnetic circular dichroism and circular dichroism spectra of cytidine, isocytidine, 2,5'-O-cyclo-2',3'-O-isopropylidine uridine, and 2,2'-O-cyclouridine were measured in the wavenumber region of 30000 -50000 cm-1. On the basis of the experimental results, the tautomerism of cytidine and isocytidine was discussed.

Circular dichroism of ferricytochrome c

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1967
Abstract The circular dichroism (CD) spectra (650 − 220 mu) of horse heart ferricytochrome c, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ferricytochrome c and ferriheme octapeptide from horse heart cytochrome c have been measured at pH 7. The CD spectra were compared to the optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) spectra and it was found that some of the optically ...

Circular and linear dichroism of proteins

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2007
Circular dichroism (CD) is an important technique in the structural characterisation of proteins, and especially for secondary structure determination. The CD of proteins can be calculated from first principles using the so-called matrix method, with an accuracy which is almost quantitative for helical proteins. Thus, for proteins of unknown structure,

Circular Dichroism and Fluorescence Detected Circular Dichroism of Macromolecules

1979
I will concentrate in this chapter on experimental and theoretical methods which are pertinent mainly to polymers and macromolecules. The optical properties of polymers are determined by the interactions between two or more similar chromophores. Therefore, to calculate the circular dichroism of a polymer we need the properties of the individual ...

Rotatory Dispersion and Circular Dichroism

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1968
This article presents a brief review of several recent papers dealing with optical activity of nucleic acids, proteins, polysaccharides, the smaller molecular groupings from which these macromolecules are derived and a few complex materials, such as ribosomes and membrane fragments.

Absorption and Circular Dichroism Spectroscopies

1981
The obtaining of absorption and circular dichroism spectra of a suspension of biological membranes is a relatively simple and quick procedure. Extracting correct and meaningful information from these spectra is not so simple and quick. In this chapter an effort will be made stepwise to present the problem of the application to the study of biomembranes
