Microparticles That Form Immune Complexes as Modulatory Structures in Autoimmune Responses

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Microparticles (MPs) are induced during apoptosis, cell activation, and even “spontaneous” release. Initially MPs were considered to be inert cellular products with no biological function. However, an extensive research and functional characterization have shown that the molecular composition and the effects of MPs depend upon the cellular background ...

Vitamin D deficiency induces erectile dysfunction: Role of superoxide and Slpi

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 15, Page 3669-3687, August 2025.
Background and Purpose Epidemiological studies suggest a relationship between vitamin D deficiency and erectile dysfunction (ED). We hypothesized that vitamin D deficiency or vitamin D receptor (VDR) knockout causes ED and analysed the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Chromosome‐scale reference genome of Pectocarya recurvata, the species with the smallest reported genome size in Boraginaceae

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 13, Issue 3, May-June 2025.
Abstract Premise Pectocarya recurvata (Boraginaceae, subfamily Cynoglossoideae), a species native to the Sonoran Desert (North America), has served as a model system for a suite of ecological and evolutionary studies. However, no reference genomes are currently available in Cynoglossoideae. A high‐quality reference genome for P.

Treating activated regulatory T cells with pramipexole protects human dopaminergic neurons from 6‐OHDA‐induced degeneration

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2024.
Pramipexole‐treated, activated regulatory T cells protect dopaminergic neurons against 6 OHDA damage and promote primary neurite length. This could be due to the production of the regulatory cytokine IL‐10 and an increased expression of genes related to regulation and neuroprotection.

Proinflammatory Differentiation of Macrophages Through Microparticles That Form Immune Complexes Leads to T- and B-Cell Activation in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) demonstrate increased circulating microparticles (MP). These vesicles, primarily those that form immune complexes (MP-IC), may activate monocytes.

Building momentum through networks: Bioimaging across the Americas

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 294, Issue 3, Page 420-439, June 2024.
Abstract In September 2023, the two largest bioimaging networks in the Americas, Latin America Bioimaging (LABI) and BioImaging North America (BINA), came together during a 1‐week meeting in Mexico. This meeting provided opportunities for participants to interact closely with decision‐makers from imaging core facilities across the Americas. The meeting

Peripheral and intestinal T lymphocyte subsets in dogs with chronic inflammatory enteropathy

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 1437-1448, May/June 2024.
Abstract Background Dysregulated T lymphocyte response is thought to play a key role in chronic intestinal inflammation (CIE). Objectives To evaluate the presence of changes in peripheral and intestinal T lymphocyte subsets and to describe potential immune and inflammatory biomarkers in dogs with CIE.
