FvMAPK6‐Mediated FvMYB44s/FvSWEET1 Dual‐Layer Regulation Modulates Sugar Accumulation in Strawberry Fruit, With FvSPS3 Enabling Quality–Yield Balance

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sugar content is a key determinant of fruit quality, and sugars also act as signalling molecules that regulate ripening processes, including anthocyanin accumulation. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying sugar accumulation and sugar signal‐mediated ripening remain incompletely understood.

A PLETHORA3/7 transcription factor shapes cucumber shoot architecture

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 1, Page 230-245, April 2026.
Summary PLETHORA transcription factors (PLTs) are master regulators of plant development. Loss of shoot meristematic PLTs leads to reduced phyllotactic regularity and robustness in Arabidopsis and increased inflorescence branching in tomato. Whether these factors have similar functions in other species is not known.

Soil acidity stress: A faba bean (Vicia faba L.) cultivation challenge in Ethiopia, mitigation, and future perspectives

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Soil acidity is among the most important abiotic stresses globally constraining agricultural land and crop productivity. Globally, about 30%–40% of total arable land is under the influence of acidic soil. In Ethiopia, approximately 43% of arable land and productive areas are constrained by acidic soil.

Cucurbitane-type Triterpenes from Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Seeds [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2013
Two new cucurbitane-type triterpenes, 24-hydroperoxycucurbita-5,25-dien-3β-ol (1) and 25-hydroperoxycucurbita-5,23-dien-3β-ol (2), were isolated from a MeOH extract of Citrullus lanatus seeds. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities with IC50 values of 33.4–52.4 μM against HL-60 (human leukemia), P388 (murine leukemia), and L1210 ...

Biostimulatory Potential of Sargassum muticum Extracts in Enhancing Sesame Tolerance to Water Deficit During Germination and Seedling Growth

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science, Volume 54, Issue 1, March 2026.
Water deficit is a major abiotic stress that limits plant growth and productivity. This article evaluates the effectiveness of an aqueous seaweed extract (ASE) from Sargassum muticum as an ecofriendly biostimulant to alleviate water deficit stress during seed germination and early seedling growth of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.).
