Cross-Clade CD8+ T-Cell Responses With a Preference for the Predominant Circulating Clade
JAIDS Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, 2005Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) genetic diversity is a major impediment to the design of a successful vaccine. Even if an HIV vaccine is proven effective, it remains to be seen whether this protection will extend to inter-clade, intra-clade, and recombinant strains. We used recombinant vaccinia-based interferon gamma (IFN) Elispot assays to test the

The relationships among the major lineages of frogs are summarized and an un- ranked, phylogenetic taxonomy of Anura is proposed. The names of taxa are defined according to phylogenetic principles. Several currently recognized taxa, such as "Archaeobatrachia", "Discoglos- soidea", "Leiopelmatidae", and "Discoglossidae" are paraphyletic, and the names ...

Natural clades differ from “random” clades: simulations and analyses
Paleobiology, 1981Using computer simulations and analytic calculations, we have evaluated whether conspicuous expansions and contractions of natural clades may have represented chance fluctuations that occurred while probabilities of speciation and extinction remained equal and constant.

Clade X was a day-long pandemic tabletop exercise conducted by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security on May 15, 2018, in Washington, DC. In this report, we briefly describe the exercise development process and focus principally on the findings and recommendations that arose from this project.

Molecular Evidence for a Clade of Turtles
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 1999Although turtles have been generally grouped with the most primitive reptile species, the origin and phylogenetic relationships of turtles have remained unresolved to date. To confirm the phylogenetic position of turtles in amniotes, we have cloned and determined the cDNA sequences encoding for skink lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)-A and LDH-B, snake LDH-A,

Proceedings of the 6th international workshop on Challenges of large applications in distributed environments, 2008
Now in its sixth year, Challenges of Large Applications in Distributed Environments (CLADE) has sought to encourage innovation in addressing the complex issues that arise in large-scale applications of distributed computation. Focus areas have included scheduling and mapping, data management and workflows as well as applications and infrastructure ...

Clades in Heleophrynid Salientia
African Journal of Herpetology, 2008A northern and a southern clade is recognized in the Heleophrynidae, a family of southern African Salientia. A new genus, Hadromophryne is proposed for Heleoprhyne natalensis, and related Anura presently included in this species.

ON CONSENSUS, COLLAPSIBILITY, AND CLADE CONCORDANCE
Cladistics, 1996Abstract — Consensus in cladistics is reviewed. Consensus trees, which summarize the agreement in grouping among a set of cladograms, are distinguished from compromise trees, which may contain groups that do not appear in all the cladograms being compared. Only a strict or Nelson tree is an actual consensus.

This activity introduces basic tree reading skills for evolutionary phylogenies. It is designed as a short group activity. After completing this activity, students should be familiar with basic terminology and how to "read" a phylogenetic tree.

Origin of arthropods and of the clades of Ecdysozoa
Russian Journal of Developmental Biology, 2013The problem of the origin of the phylum Arthropoda was long considered solved based on evolutionary morphology data. But molecular biological studies of recent years have put forward a new solution that contradicts the old one. Hence, the need arises to review the argumentation of both sides and search for ways to reach a consensus.
