The influence of xenobiotics in river sediment on the reproduction and survival of Daphnia magna, 1820, Straus Influência de xenobióticos no sedimento de rio sobre a reprodução e a sobrevivência de Daphnia magna, 1820, Straus

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2012
AIM: The Taquari River, a tributary of Guaíba Lake, is a major economic and environmental source for Rio Grande do Sul, a state located in the far south of Brazil; METHODS: This study evaluated the interference of sediment from this river in the ...

A long-term study on crustacean plankton of a shallow tropical lake: the role of invertebrate predation

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2015
The primary factor that governs the size and species composition of zooplankton is still a controversial issue and temperature is considered the main factor responsible for latitudinal differences.

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Polyploidy and clonal diversity in an arctic cladoceran [PDF]

open access: yesHeredity, 1995
Genome size determinations were coupled with allozyme and mtDNA studies to gain insights into the origin of polyploidy and clonal diversity in populations of Daphnia tenebrosa from Churchill, Manitoba. Allozymic variation at five enzyme loci allowed the detection of 32 clones.

Disentangling the Drivers of a Piscivorous Intra‐Annual Cohort and the Contributions of Three Cohorts to Early‐Year Class Strength in Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) as a model species, we investigated the factors influencing fluctuations in the abundance of piscivorous intra‐annual cohorts and assessed the role of three distinct cohorts: extremely small (ES), ordinary (or mid‐sized) fingerlings, and piscivorous in shaping year‐class strength.

Exposure to toxic Microcystis via intact cell ingestion and cell crude extract differently affects small-bodied cladocerans

open access: yes, 2022
Cyanobacterial blooms are increasingly common in aquatic environments worldwide. These microorganisms cause concern due to their ability to produce cyanotoxins.

Long-Term Responses of Crustacean Zooplankton to Hydrological Alterations in the Danube Inland Delta: Patterns of Biotic Homogenization and Differentiation

open access: yesDiversity
Our study addresses how large-scale hydrological alterations shape zooplankton biodiversity in floodplain ecosystems, which are highly sensitive to changes in river connectivity.
