The European Union summary report on surveillance for the presence of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in 2017

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2018
This report presents the results of surveillance on transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in bovine animals, sheep, goats, cervids and other animal species, as well as genotyping in sheep, carried out in 2017 in the European Union (EU ...

Classical Conditioning: Classical Yet Modern

open access: yesPsychologica Belgica, 2018
This manuscript is part of a special issue to commemorate professor Paul Eelen, who passed away on August 21, 2016. Paul was a clinically oriented scientist, for whom learning principles (Pavlovian or operant) were more than salivary responses and lever presses.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

On the Style of Byzantine Art of the VI–VII Centuries [PDF]

open access: yesВестник Свято-Филаретовского института, 2013
In the Early Byzantine art already two main tendencies begin to take shape: creation of an image by old classical means with their little modification, and substitution of the classical artistic language with the stricter one far from antiquity.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Amplitudes, observables, and classical scattering [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
A bstractWe present a formalism for computing classically measurable quantities directly from on-shell quantum scattering amplitudes. We discuss the ingredients needed for obtaining the classical result, and show how to set up the calculation to derive ...

Calculation of molecular free energies in classical potentials

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
Free energies of molecules can be calculated by quantum chemistry computations or by normal mode classical calculations. However, the first can be computationally impractical for large molecules and the second is based on the assumption of harmonic ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...
