Reactive Infectious Mucocutaneous Eruption (RIME): An Australian Case Series

open access: yesAustralasian Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Whilst Reactive Infectious Mucocutaneous Eruption (RIME) displays a low mortality rate, the condition results in significant morbidity and resource allocation, including prolonged hospital admission. As such, early diagnosis and optimisation of treatment is imperative.

Development of Betalactam‐Predictor: A Clinical Decision Tool for Delabeling Low‐Risk Betalactam Allergy Patients. Initial Validation in Penicillin Allergy

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
BL‐Predictor has emerged as a new tool for delabeling penicillin allergy. External validation has shown a specificity of 93% for detecting low‐risk patients. This score could potentially reduce diagnostic costs and the negative consequences associated with incorrect antibiotic allergy labels.

Dendrimeric Antigens for Passive Mast Cell Activation in the Evaluation of Amoxicillin Allergy

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
DeAns with defined nanoscale structure reveal that conjugate size and determinant density govern IgE‐mediated effector‐cell activation in AX allergy. All DeAn generations bind to sIgE in inhibition immunoassay, but only larger DeAns trigger FcεRI‐dependent responses in mouse MC, huRBL‐2H3, and LUVA cells.

Exploring the activity of a novel orally bioavailable β-lactam-β-lactamase inhibitor combination, ceftibuten-ledaborbactam, against Enterobacterales-carrying blaOXA-48

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Ledaborbactam is a novel boronic-acid inhibitor of class A, C, and D β-lactamases, including OXA-48, being developed in combination with ceftibuten. Herein, we examined the in vitro activity of this combination vs.

Clinical parameters as predictors of bacterial isolation in the uterine content of dogs suspected of pyometra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this study, female canines referred with clinical signs consistent with pyometra were prospectively evaluated. Signalment, clinical signs, laboratory findings and surgical findings were compared between dogs with and without bacterial isolation based ...

Diagnostic Impact of Liver Biopsy Among Antinuclear Antibody Positive Individuals With Mild Liver Enzyme Elevation

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In ANA‐positive patients with suspected autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), liver biopsy rarely altered therapeutic management when alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was below 101 U/L and cirrhosis was absent. These findings suggest that biopsy may be safely deferred in this low‐risk group.

Bibliometric Analysis of Global Research on Clavulanic Acid

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2018
Clavulanic acid (CA), a potent inhibitor of the β-lactam, ase enzyme, is frequently co-formulated with a broad spectrum of antibiotics to treat infections caused by β-lactamase-producing pathogens.

Characterization of amoxicillin‐ and clavulanic acid‐specific T cells in patients with amoxicillin‐clavulanate–induced liver injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Drug‐induced liver injury (DILI) frequently has a delayed onset with several human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes affecting susceptibility, indicating a potential role for the adaptive immune system in the disease.

Probable sepsis‐associated encephalopathy as a component of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in a cat with pyothorax

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
A 2‐year‐old male neutered domestic shorthair cat with bacterial pyothorax was referred to a tertiary hospital for treatment of sepsis. He met criteria for multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and developed new‐onset neurological dysfunction subsequent to the development of sepsis.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Clinical Isolates from Blood Samples in Iran

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2015
Introduction: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a nosocomial multi drug resistant opportunistic pathogen which causes infections in vulnerable patients with cancer, cystic fibrosis and indwelling catheters. Methods: 45 clinical S. maltophilia isolates were
