Validation of Hourly Global Horizontal Irradiance for Two Satellite-Derived Datasets in Northeast Iraq

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Several sectors need global horizontal irradiance (GHI) data for various purposes. However, the availability of a long-term time series of high quality in situ GHI measurements is limited.

Design and Characterization of a Two‐Dimensional Soft Array Based on Cooperative Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fully polymeric two‐dimensional array of Dielectric Elastomers enables self‐sensing, cooperative actuation, and large‐stroke operation in a DE‐based autonomous conveyor. Based only on voltage and current measurements at actuator level, the system detects the presence of a ball and subsequently drives it toward a target position.

Short-Term Solar Radiation Prediction Based on Convolution Neural Network and Fitted Clear-Sky Model

open access: yesEnergies
This study proposes an advanced short-term Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) prediction model for Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems, integrating a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a fitted clear-sky DNI model.

Boosting Conversion Efficiency in Zn3P2/InP Solar Cells Via Nanoscale Junction Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the efficacy of selective area epitaxy (SAE) in enhancing the conversion efficiency of a Zn3P2${\rm Zn}_3{\rm P}_2$/InP heterojunction solar cell. The impact of the SAE pattern dimensions on the performance parameters is investigated. Small size opening limits Jsc because of current crowding whereas large size opening limits Voc

A Standardized Sky Condition Classification Method for Multiple Timescales and Its Applications in the Solar Industry

open access: yesEnergies
The deployment of photovoltaic (PV) systems has increased globally to meet renewable energy targets. Intermittent PV power generated due to cloud-induced variability introduces reliability and grid stability issues at higher penetration levels ...

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Digitization of geospatial-temporal mapping of the distribution of solar energy resources in Mozambique over long-term measurements

open access: yesSolar Energy Advances
The uneven distribution of solar energy across the Earth's surface is due to atmospheric processes, radiation interactions, and geometric factors.

Tailoring Light Management in All‐Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells: The Impact of Nanotextures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To further improve the power conversion efficiency of all‐perovskite tandem solar cells, light management strategies need to be implemented. Front‐sided nanotextures reduce reflection losses, which boosts light absorption, thus increasing the tandem JSC, which is further supported by reducing parasitic absorption.

Diagnosis of clear sky ultraviolet radiation for México [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A discrete-ordinate radiative transfer model is employed to develop a regional clear sky ultraviolet (UV) diagnosis system. The clear sky UV radiation, weighted by the spectral sensitivity of human skin is calculated using the Total Ozone Mapping ...

Global Horizontal Irradiance Estimation Using a Hybrid Physical-Machine Learning Soft Sensor Based on a Low-Cost Photovoltaic Measurement Platform

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Accurate measurements of global horizontal irradiance (GHI) are fundamental for solar energy assessment. However, the cost and deployment constraints of standard pyranometers limit their widespread use.
