Identification of Clear-sky Conditions with the Direct Clearness Index

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science
Abstract The direct clearness index (DrCI), defined as the ratio of direct solar irradiance (R d ) to extraterrestrial irradiance (R a ), is proposed as an effective indicator for identifying clear-sky or cloud-free conditions.

Sky‐Directional Radiative Cooling Meta‐Films for Daylighting Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A geometry‐mediated microprism meta‐film enables transparent, sky‐directional radiative cooling for daylighting windows. By decoupling control of visible transmittance from mid‐infrared emissivity, ground‐emitted heat absorption is suppressed while skyward heat dissipation is enhanced.

Himawari-8 satellite detection of morning terrain fog in a subtropical region

open access: yesClimate Services
This study explores the construction of a subtropical morning terrain fog detection algorithm for Himawari-8 data. Specifically, the clear sky surface suppression index is constructed to preliminarily remove the clear sky surface by combining Farneback ...

Spatiotemporal Variations of Satellite Microwave Emissivity Difference Vegetation Index in China Under Clear and Cloudy Skies

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2020
In this study, we used data from multiple sensors onboard NASA Aqua satellite to conduct a 10‐year (2002–2011) remote sensing of microwave emissivity difference vegetation index (EDVI) over China.

Patterned ELR‐Gelatin Hydrogels Enable Rapid Endothelial Monolayer Formation via Bioactive Matrix Chemistry and Surface Topography

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nano‐patterned elastin‐like recombinamer (ELR) hydrogels integrate bioactive matrix chemistry with defined surface topography. The combined cues promote rapid endothelial cell capture, alignment, and monolayer formation on soft substrates.

Boundary-Layer Meteorology / A method to identify synoptically undisturbed, clear-sky conditions for valley-wind analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
"Valley-wind days" are characterized by synoptically undisturbed, clear-sky conditions, which lead to the formation of thermally-driven slope- and valley-wind circulations in mountain regions.

Evidence for Itinerant Ferromagnetic Flat Bands Producing Large Transverse Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Itinerant ferromagnetic flat bands are demonstrated in GdCo5 with a high Curie temperature of 940K, a stacked honeycomb–kagome lattice, through angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy and magneto‐thermoelectric measurements. These topological flat bands generate large Berry curvaturte, producing gigantic anomalous Nernst effect with record‐high ...

UV Map Nowcasting and Comparison with Ground-Based UV Measurements for the DACH Region

open access: yesRemote Sensing
This study introduces a new method for nowcasting UV Index maps developed within the framework of the Austrian Solar UV Measurement Network. While we focus on the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) in this study, the same methods are ...
