How atmospheric humidity drives the outgoing longwave radiation–surface temperature relationship and inter-model spread

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2023
The Earth’s global radiation budget depends critically on the relationship between outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and surface temperature ( $T_\mathrm{s}$ ).

From Photoalignment to Structured Light: Liquid Crystal Platforms for Beam Shaping and Complex Wavefronts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photoaligned and photopatterned liquid crystal platforms provide programmable control of optical phase, polarization, and spin‐orbit interactions, enabling compact generation of structured light and complex wavefronts. This review highlights how tailored molecular orientations transform simple beams into designed optical fields, opening versatile ...

Altitude Adjustment of Empirical Models for Estimating Clear-Sky Solar Irradiance

open access: yesAnnals of West University of Timisoara: Physics
This research provides an innovative empirical model for solar irradiance estimation under clear sky conditions. The new model adjusts the estimates of G-EM clear-sky solar irradiance model (Goilean et al. AWUT-Physics 66, 2024, 241) with respect to site

Estimation of Solar Irradiance Under Cloudy Weather Based on Solar Radiation Model and Ground-Based Cloud Image

open access: yesEnergies
The estimation of solar radiation plays an important role in different fields such as heating, agriculture and energy. At present, most studies focus on clear-sky models; it is relatively difficult to quantify the obstruction of radiation by clouds ...

An Edible Chitosan‐Based Acoustic Sensor for Sound‐Responsive Actuation in Edible Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an edible acoustic sensor for robotic food and edible robotics. Built from a chitosan piezoelectric film between gold electrodes, the sensor enables acoustic communication through ON/OFF keying. Integrated into an edible robot with pneumatically actuated arms and neck, it responds to high‐frequency tones.

A Stokesian model of areal clear‐sky direct radiation for mountainous terrain

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1993
The global direct flux of clear‐sky incoming solar radiation over a given portion of terrain (e.g., the surface of a drainage basin) is modeled by using the Stokes' formula. Accordingly, line integration is substituted for surface integration to describe topographic variability.

An Electrowetting Pump

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tubular electrowetting pump moves alternating droplets through a millimeter‐wide channel in discrete, reversible steps, functioning as a fluidic stepper motor. With no moving parts and electrodes insulated from the liquid, it delivers silent, accurate flow. Flexibility allows the pump to be woven directly into textiles for wearable, medical, and soft‐

Design and Characterization of a Two‐Dimensional Soft Array Based on Cooperative Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fully polymeric two‐dimensional array of Dielectric Elastomers enables self‐sensing, cooperative actuation, and large‐stroke operation in a DE‐based autonomous conveyor. Based only on voltage and current measurements at actuator level, the system detects the presence of a ball and subsequently drives it toward a target position.
