Uncertainty Analysis of Planar Robots With Joint Clearance

Volume 5: 6th Flexible Assembly Conference, 1998
Abstract Joint clearance in mechanisms and robots leads to uncertainty in function deviation. Unlike the impact of the link tolerance on the performance quality, the uncertain effect of the joint clearance to the performance can not be eliminated by calibration because of the random nature. In this paper, based on the probability theory,

Mechanical Joints With Clearance: A Three-Mode Model

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1976
A momentum exchange model is developed to describe the dynamic performance of mechanisms with clearance. A following mode is incorporated in the model to account for the case when contact is maintained between the pin and the socket while they move relative to each other.

Minimal Deviation Paths for Manipulators With Joint Clearances

Volume 5B: 38th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, 2014
Manipulator joint clearance is a natural consequence of manufacturing processes. Although most studies in the literature have assumed zero joint clearance, its existence is unavoidable and thus its impact needs to be evaluated. With the miniaturizing trend in engineering products, errors due to joint clearance have become an increasingly important ...

Effect of Bearing Clearance on Cardan-Joint Kinematics

15th Design Automation Conference: Volume 3 — Mechanical Systems Analysis, Design and Simulation, 1989
Abstract The effect of radial bearing clearance at the intermediate joints of a Cardan-type universal joint has been investigated. It is found that errors in displacement at the output and also intermediate joints occur, and that their amplitudes have a linear relationship to the magnitudes of the radial bearing clearances.

Kinematic Clearance Sensitivity Analysis of Spatial Structures With Revolute Joints (*)

Journal of Mechanical Design, 1999
The paper presents a new method to assess the influence of joint clearances in spatial structures that are composed of links connected by revolute joints. The method allows assessment of the amount by which joint clearances affect the rigid-body position of a generic link of the structure when an external load is exerted on the link.
