Aridity on the Rise: Spatial and Temporal Shifts in Climate Aridity in Spain (1961–2020)
International Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 6, May 2025.Climate aridity increased between 1961 and 1990 and 1991–2020 in Spain, with 12% of peninsular Spain and the Balearic Islands transitioning towards more arid climate categories, while almost no areas transitioned towards more humid conditions. In the Canary Islands, 16% of the territory transitioned towards more arid categories.

Catalogue and Analysis of Extraordinary Precipitation Events in the Spanish Mainland, 1916–2022
International Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 6, May 2025.From 1916 to 2022, 12.4% of days recorded rainfall exceeding 100 mm, and 1.4% of days rainfall was over 200 mm in some stations in the Spanish mainland. These events are located particularly along the coastland areas, with the highest values mainly in the east and southern parts of the country.

Long‐term snowfall trends and variability in the Alps
International Journal of Climatology, Volume 44, Issue 13, Page 4571-4591, 15 November 2024.During the period 1920–2020, despite a slight increase in winter precipitation, negative snowfall trends are present over the Alps. Most of the decrease in HN occurred mainly between 1980 and 2020, as a result of a more pronounced increase in TMEAN.

International Journal of Climatology, Volume 44, Issue 9, Page 3006-3027, July 2024.The paper finds that there has been a considerable increase in the frequency of tropical nights throughout Spain. In addition to occurring more frequently, they tend to be more intense, to appear in more months of the year—and not only in summer—to be more consecutive and to be accompanied by high relative humidity in some areas.
