Long‐term snowfall trends and variability in the Alps
International Journal of Climatology, Volume 44, Issue 13, Page 4571-4591, 15 November 2024.During the period 1920–2020, despite a slight increase in winter precipitation, negative snowfall trends are present over the Alps. Most of the decrease in HN occurred mainly between 1980 and 2020, as a result of a more pronounced increase in TMEAN.

In addition to occurring more frequently, they tend to be more intense, to appear in more months of the year—and not only in summer—to be more consecutive and to be accompanied by high relative humidity in some areas.
