Melatonin: clinical prospects in immunology

open access: yesJournal of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University: Series Medicine, 2020
Introduction. For a long time, HIV has been associated with a number of inflammatory, infectious and neoplastic skin diseases. In the era of anti-retroviral therapy researchers have found even more about the relationship between skin disease and chronic ...

Deciduous tooth biomarkers reveal atypical fetal inflammatory regulation in autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Atypical regulation of inflammation has been proposed in the etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD); however, measuring the temporal profile of fetal inflammation associated with future ASD diagnosis has not been possible. Here, we present a

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Immunological profiles of patients from endemic areas infected with Schistosoma mansoni

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1992
Crude extracts of eggs (SEA) adult worms (SWAP) or cercariae (Cerc) have been used to stimulate Peripheral Blood Mononuclear cells (PBMC) and have provided rather distinct profiles of responses in different types of patients. In genenral it is clear that

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Langerhans-type dendritic cells electroporated with TRP-2 mRNA stimulate cellular immunity against melanoma: Results of a phase I vaccine trial

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2018
Purpose: We conducted a phase I vaccine trial to determine safety, toxicity, and immunogenicity of autologous Langerhans-type dendritic cells (LCs), electroporated with murine tyrosinase-related peptide-2 (mTRP2) mRNA in patients with resected AJCC stage
