Bovine serum growth hormone levels in clinical ketosis

Veterinary Record, 1977
Blood samples were taken from ketotic cows and from normal lactating cows in summer and winter. The lowest serum growth hormone and plasma glucose levels and the highest serum free fatty acid values were observed in the ketotic cows. It is suggested that the decrease in growth hormone might benefit the ketotic animal.

Clinical Ketosis

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 1988
A diagnosis of primary ketosis is based on clinical signs, clinical pathology, and ruling-out disorders that cause secondary ketosis. Various treatments can be used alone or in combination during the management of clinical ketosis. A treatment should be based on drugs with a mechanism of action that will eliminate the pathogenesis of the clinical signs

Case Studies of Ketosis and the Clinical Utility of β-Hydroxybutyrate

Point of Care: The Journal of Near-Patient Testing & Technology, 2013
Three case studies are described for patients presenting with ketosis. Patients have medical histories of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. These patients present with elevated blood and urine ketones associated with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), alcoholic ketosis, and starvation-induced ketosis with a possible component of DKA.

Effect of Clinical Ketosis on Milk Yield in Mehsana Buffaloes

Journal of Veterinary Advances, 2015
A study was conducted to assess the factors influencing the economic losses due to ketosis by gathering data from samples of eighteen ketotic Mehsana buffaloes. The study outlines the effect of ketosis in eighteen buffaloes. Three (16.67%) of 18 ketotic buffaloes showed 20-30 percent drop in milk yield, whereas 40-50 per cent drop in production was ...

Clinical Trial of Early Ketosis Detection and Therapy in Fresh Cows

American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference Proceedings, 2011
Postparturient (type II) ketosis, mostly subclinical in degree, is a common disease associated with decreased milk production, decreased reproductive performance, and increased risk of displaced abomasum (DA) in dairy cattle. Based on the assumption that early treatment of ketosis will prevent the anticipated losses, it is often recommended to perform ...

[Clinical findings and differential diagnosis in ketosis and hypocalcemia in sheep].

DTW. Deutsche tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 1999
Clinical and laboratory examinations were carried out in a prospective study from 1978 to 1998 on 454 spontaneously diseased sheep of different breeds aged 2-8 years. Three groups of sheep were defined by plasma concentrations of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-OHB) and calcium. 214 ewes suffered from ketosis (pregnancy toxaemia, 3-OHB > 1.6 mmol/l), 195 ewes and
