Cumulative incidence of ketosis in fresh lactating cows: a case study in the United Arab Emirates

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Non-infectious diseases such as ketosis could present a major threat to the development of the dairy subsector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A retrospective study (2019 to 2022) was conducted on 7511 fresh lactating cows to estimate the monthly ...

Ketogenic Diet and β‐Hydroxybutyrate Suppress Bladder Cancer Growth and Enhance Anti‐PD‐L1 Immunotherapy Efficacy

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Ketogenic diet and β‐hydroxybutyrate (β‐HB) suppress bladder cancer growth through direct anti‐tumor mechanisms and enhance anti‐PD‐L1 immunotherapy efficacy. β‐HB upregulates PD‐L1 via JAK2‐STAT3 activation and remodels the tumor immune microenvironment, sensitizing tumors to immune checkpoint blockade. ABSTRACT The limited clinical efficacy of immune

Prurigo Pigmentosa – an increasingly diagnosed dermatological condition associated with ketogenic diet

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
SUMMARY Prurigo pigmentosa (PP) is a rare inflammatory dermatosis, clinically characterized by intensely pruritic, erythematous papules and papulovesicles, with reticular hyperpigmentation upon healing. We herein report four cases in adults of different ethnic backgrounds, in which the disease was associated with ketogenic metabolic states due to ...

Psychological research in eating disorders/disordered eating in type 1 diabetes: A systematic review using the NIH stage model for behavioural intervention development

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Eating disorders in type 1 diabetes are 2.4 times more likely to develop than those who do not have diabetes. The aim was to conduct a systematic review on psychological interventions in IRDEB (insulin‐related disordered eating behaviour)/eating disorders with adults who have type 1 diabetes.

Identification of key factors causing ketosis in dairy cows with low feed intake

open access: yesAnimal Biotechnology
Ketosis is a common metabolic disease in high-yield dairy cows. Key genes affecting ketosis need to be further explored by new methods. The gene expression profiling and clinical data of GSE92398, GSE104079, and GSE4304 were obtained from the gene ...

Ketosis Onset Type 2 Diabetes Had Better Islet β-Cell Function and More Serious Insulin Resistance

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2014
Diabetic ketosis had been identified as a characteristic of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), but now emerging evidence has identified that they were diagnosed as T2DM after long time follow up.

Clinical Ketosis: Phenotypic and Genetic Correlations Between Occurrences and with Milk Yield

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1991
The repeatability and heritability of ketosis were estimated using data from 28,277 Finnish Ayrshire cows. A four-trait linear model including community-year, calving age and month, genetic group, and random sire effects was used to describe first and second lactation milk yields and veterinary diagnoses of ketosis.

Analysing Resilience Indicator Traits in Austrian Fleckvieh, Brown Swiss and Holstein‐Friesian Cattle

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recent studies suggest that variations in milk yield during lactation can serve as a metric for assessing individual resilience, with minimum fluctuations reflecting greater resilience in cows. With automatic milking systems, multiple records can be obtained from many cows on a daily basis. Given that animals are continually exposed to a range

Clinical Benefits of Exogenous Ketosis in Adults with Disease: A Systematic Review

open access: yesNutrients
Background/Objectives: Ketone bodies are increasingly studied for their potential therapeutic effects, particularly through exogenous ketosis, in a variety of diseases. This systematic review aimed to rigorously assess the clinical efficacy of exogenous ketosis in adults with medical conditions.
