First trimester “clean catch” urine and vaginal swab sample distinct microbiological niches

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Untreated asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. Thus, routine screening by standard urine culture (SUC) and treatment of ASB are currently recommended for all pregnant women.

Biomimetic Nanoplatform for Dual Target Nano‐Metabolic Therapy in Diabetes‐Associated Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic GOx/Arg‐loaded nanoplatform produces nitric oxide through an in situ catalytic cascade reaction, enabling dual‐target metabolic regulation in diabetes‐associated biofilm infections. Bacterial metabolism is disrupted, and macrophage immunometabolism is reprogrammed, resulting in biofilm eradication, immune restoration, and enhanced ...

An Attention‐Assisted Machine Learning System for Deep Microorganism Image Classification

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An attention‐assisted DenseNet201 framework was developed for the classification of eight microorganism classes from microscopic images. The proposed model improved classification performance and achieved an accuracy of 87.38%. Advances in microbiology and environmental health fundamentally depend on precise and timely microorganism identification ...

Therapeutic Silencing of Tmprss6 Reduces Iron‐Induced Inflammation and Prolongs Survival in MDS Mice

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a heterogeneous group of clonal hematopoietic disorders characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis, cytopenias, and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Despite advances in supportive and targeted therapies, disease‐modifying interventions remain limited.

National antibiotic consumption is strongly related to the prevalence of antibiotic resistance across bacterial clades

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The impact of societal antibiotic consumption on the prevalence of antibiotic resistance across microbial taxa in natural environments has not yet been assessed at global scales. Here, I examine the prevalence of 155 antibiotic resistance genes (

Clinically Relevant Bleeding in Individuals With Cancer: Insights From a Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cancer care is often complicated by coagulopathy leading to thrombosis and bleeding. While venous thromboembolism (VTE) has been extensively studied, bleeding remains an underestimated threat. To address this knowledge gap, we leveraged the Epic Cosmos database to determine the impact of cancer‐associated clinically relevant bleeding (CRB) in ...

The Changing Landscape of Maintenance Therapy in Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma: A Systematic Review With Network Meta‐Analysis of the European Myeloma Network (EMN)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
Our meta‐analysis showed significant improvement of PFS with lenalidomide, proteasome inhibitors, and CD38‐based therapies. A significant OS benefit was noted only with lenalidomide in transplant‐eligible (TE) patients, while CD38‐directed therapy showed a trend toward improved OS.

Performance of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry for identification of bacterial strains routinely isolated in a clinical microbiology laboratory.

open access: yes, 2010
Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has recently been introduced in diagnostic microbiology laboratories for the identification of bacterial and yeast strains isolated from clinical samples.

Clinical and Laboratory Characterization of Acquired Von Willebrand Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acquired von Willebrand Syndrome (AVWS) is a rare bleeding disorder characterized by quantitative or qualitative defects of von Willebrand factor (VWF) in patients without a personal or family history of bleeding. It is frequently associated with systemic diseases, particularly lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) and myeloproliferative ...
