Clinotrons as powerful sources of terahertz radiation

2009 International Workshop Terahertz and Mid Infrared Radiation: Basic Research and Practical Applications, 2009
A series of clinotron tubes and clinotron based oscillators, which effectively operate throughout millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelength bands, have been developed at the Institute of Radio Astronomy. In this paper, the design and characteristics of these devices are discussed.

Study on the stability and reliability of Clinotron at Y-band

Physics of Plasmas, 2017
To improve the stability and reliability of Clinotron at the Y-band, some key issues are researched, such as the synchronous operating mode, the heat accumulation on the slow-wave structure, and the errors in micro-fabrication. By analyzing the dispersion relationship, the working mode is determined as the TM10 mode.

Mode analysis and design of 0.3-THz Clinotron

Chinese Physics B, 2016
To develop a high-power continuous-wave terahertz source, a Clinotron operating at 0.3 THz is investigated. Based on the analyses of field distribution and coupling impedance, the dispersion characteristic of a rectangular resonator is preliminarily studied.

Effect of Electron Beam Velocity Spread in a Clinotron

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2019
We have studied the effect of velocity spread in the electron beam cross section on the output power, frequency, and starting current in a clinotron. It was shown that in the case when the lower electron layers move faster than upper ones there is an increase in the output power compared to the single velocity beam case.

CW clinotrons for the short-wave part of the millimeter waveband

IEEE International Vacuum Electronics Conference, 2014
We consider some features of CW operation of compact microwave vacuum electron devices of the clinotron type devoting attention to their advantageous characteristics most strongly pronounced in the short-wave part of the millimeter waveband and experimentally confirmed by the operation parameters of the in-house designed devices.

Development of compact CW clinotrons for DNP-NMR spectroscopy

2016 9th International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves (MSMW), 2016
Numerical simulations of the electromagnetic systems for both 130 GHz and 263 GHz CW clinotrons have been performed. Experimental results of the 130 GHz CW clinotron hot-testing are presented. Potentials of significant output power magnification and extension of operating frequency range in clinotrons has been shown by increasing the electron beam ...

Application of Clinotron Scheme for THz Traveling-Wave-Tubes

2019 44th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz), 2019
Results of simulations of the 340 GHz TWT based on the clinotron operation scheme are presented. The advantage of applied clinotron scheme for THz TWT is demonstrated by the results of gain analysis, those were obtained according to nonlinear non-stationary theory of the clinotron amplifier. The output power of simulated clinotron-TWT exceeds the power
