Distributed synchronous clocking

IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 1995
It is difficult to distribute a well aligned hardware clock throughout the physical extent of a synchronous processor. In this paper, we present an alternative approach-Distributed Synchronous Clocking-that maintains the simplicity of synchronous operation without suffering the drawbacks of centralized clocking.

Byzantine clock synchronization

ACM SIGOPS Operating Systems Review, 1984
An informal description is given of three fault-tolerant clock-synchronization algorithms. These algorithms work in the presence of arbitrary kinds of failure, including "two-faced" clocks. Two of the algorithms are derived from Byzantine Generals solutions.

Clock Synchronization on a Multicomputer

Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 1997
We describe hardware and software schemes for achieving precise clock synchronization on SP2 parallel system nodes. The SP2 multistage interconnection network has an unusual hardware feature, a set of distributed counters that the processor nodes may utilize for synchronizing their time?of?day clocks.

Why two clocks synchronize: Energy balance of the synchronized clocks

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2011
We consider the synchronization of two clocks which are accurate (show the same time) but have pendulums with different masses. We show that such clocks hanging on the same beam beside the complete (in-phase) and antiphase synchronizations perform the third type of synchronization in which the difference of the pendulums’ displacements is a periodic ...

Clock synchronization in MAFT

[1989] The Nineteenth International Symposium on Fault-Tolerant Computing. Digest of Papers, 2003
The steady-state clock synchronization algorithm of MAFT (multicomputer architecture for fault tolerance), an extremely reliable system for real-time applications, is discussed. The synchronization algorithm has been implemented in hardware and a system prototype constructed. The algorithm uses an interactive convergence approach, based on synchronized

Clock synchronization in Cell/B.E. traces

Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, 2008
AbstractCell/B.E. is a heterogeneous multicore processor that was designed for the efficient execution of parallel and vectorizable applications with high computation and memory requirements. The transition to multicores introduces the challenge of providing tools that help programmers tune the code running on these architectures.

Clock synchronization in virtual rings

Proceedings Sixth Euromicro Workshop on Real-Time Systems, 2002
A probabilistic algorithm for external clock synchronization is proposed. The algorithm works under the assumption that it is possible to identify a virtual ring among the servers involved, and does not require an upper bound to message transmission delays.
