Clonal Variations in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

2006
The genetic diversity within a bacterial species is determined by the number and size of chromosomal and extrachromosomal elements, rates of nucleotide substitution, recombination, genome rearrangements and gene flow, and both the size and growth of the bacterial population. Most species of bacteria that were initially analyzed, were of a clonal nature.

Clonal and population variation in jellyfish symmetry

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1999
While it is generally assumed that jellyfishes (Cnidaria: Scyphozoa) are stably tetramerous, variation in symmetry (i.e. unimerous to octamerous) can be observed in most populations at a rate of approximately 2%, but sometimes as high as 10%. This type of variation has been observed among clonemates during strobilation in five taxa, namely Aurelia ...

Stability and variation in aphid clonal lineages

Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1979
Evidence in the literature purporting to show genetic variability within parthenogenetic lines of aphids is reviewed. The results of three experimental approaches to this problem are reported: (1) a long term study of fluctuation in alate morph production in six lines of Myzus persicae; (2) an attempt tp select for caudal hair form in Acyrthosiphon ...

Autumn frost damage: clonal variation in Sitka spruce

Forest Ecology and Management, 1996
Current-year needles of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) can be injured by frost after hardening of stem and buds in the autumn, and in Scotland trees of southern provenances are most susceptible to damage. In October 1993 a frost of -5°C caused needle damage to clonal plants of Alaskan, Queen Charlotte Islands, and Washington provenances of Sitka ...

Physiologic and pathologic profiling of clonal variations

2019
This thesis sought to provide a better understanding of clonality in various malignant and non-malignant settings using a variety of genomic analytical tools. Clonality is pre-defined as the presence of a mixed population of cells in which each sub-population has distinct somatic mutation profile.

Clonal variation of cadmium response in human tumor cell lines

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1986
Subpopulations of human tumor-derived cell lines A101D, A204, and A549 were screened for Cd2+ cytotoxic response. Three of six A549, two of seven A101D, and four of seven A204 subpopulations were found to differ significantly from the parental line. A variant subpopulation of A101D (T3) was shown by flow cytometry to be comprised of cells having two ...

Somaclonal Variation: The Myth of Clonal Uniformity

1985
The genomes of eukaryotes are in a dynamic state of flux. Nowhere is this more apparent than in higher plants, particularly under in vitro culture systems, where the amount of variability generated can be described as staggering. The nature and extent of the variation arising during culture highlights the apparent fragility of plant genomes when the ...

VICTree - A Variational Inference Method for Clonal Tree Reconstruction

Clonal tree inference brings crucial insights to the analysis of tumor heterogeneity and cancer evolution. Recent progress in single cell sequencing has prompted a demand for more advanced probabilistic models of copy number evolution, coupled with inference methods which can account for the noisy nature of the data along with dependencies between ...
