Infection in Closed Fractures

Infection after a closed fracture is rare. Whereas open fractures are considered contaminated, closed fractures are assumed to be uncontaminated and have an extremely low risk of infection. We report on a previously healthy adult patient who presented acutely with an infected, closed patellar fracture.

Closed treatment of fracture of the tibial spines

Summary Closed reduction in hyperextension as suggested by Clark (1935) was carried out in 10 cases of fracture of the tibial spines in which the fragment was elevated from its osseous bed. Eight patients were followed-up. Bone apposition was good or fairly good in all cases but one.
