To close or not to close?

open access: yesForum Médical Suisse ‒ Swiss Medical Forum, 2010

Student-initiated email communication: An analysis of openings and closings by Spanish EFL learners [PDF]

open access: yesSintagma, 2018
Emails are one of the most widely-used forms of communication in the institutional context since they are pervasive in lecturer student exchanges. This study analyzes opening and closing sequences in first-contact emails written by two groups of students

A Trajectory-Based Approach to Multi-Session Underwater Visual SLAM Using Global Image Signatures

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
This paper presents a multi-session monocular Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) approach focused on underwater environments. The system is composed of three main blocks: a visual odometer, a loop detector, and an optimizer. Single session loop

Practices of everyday telephone conversation closings: when the call does not close

open access: yesCalidoscópio, 2010
This paper studies everyday telephone conversation closings in the framework of ethnomethodological Conversation Analysis. Through the contributions of Schegloff and Sacks (1973) and Button (1987; 1990), among others, it aims to show some practices used ...

The Closed Extensions of a Closed Operator [PDF]

open access: yesIntegral Equations and Operator Theory, 2019
Given a densely defined and closed operator $A$ acting on a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, we establish a one-to-one correspondence between its closed extensions and subspaces $\mathfrak{M}\subset\mathcal{D}(A^*)$, that are closed with respect to the graph norm of $A^*$ and satisfy certain conditions.

Voluntary Cyclical Distancing: A Potential Alternative to Constant Level Mandatory Social Distancing, Relying on an “Infection Weather Report”

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2020
COVID-19 has significantly changed our daily lives. Stay-at-home orders and forced closings of all non-essential businesses had a significant impact on our economy.

Advance Notice of Plant Closings: Toward National Legislation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
This article advocates the adoption of national legislation requiring advance notice for plants closed or relocated for ostensibly economic reasons. Part I discusses the magnitude of the plant closing problem, focusing upon the costs associated with such

Path openings and closings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper lays the theoretical foundations to path openings and closings. The traditional morphological filter used for the analysis of linear structures in images is the union of openings (or the intersection of closings) by linear segments.

On closed operators with closed range [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1960
It is well-known that if T is an everywhere defined bounded operator on a Banach space X to a Banach space Y and T* is its adjoint, then the range R(T*) of T* is closed in X* if and only if the range R(T) of T is closed in Y (cf. [2, pp. 487-489]). The object of this note is to establish this result for closed but possibly unbounded operators.
