Extracellular proteins of Clostridium chauvoei are protective in a mouse model
The anaerobic bacillus Clostridium chauvoei is the causative agent of blackleg, a lethal disease that has an important impact on the sheep and cattle industry worldwide. Immunity to C. chauvoei is considered to be mainly anticellular, and for this reason there is scarce information about the immunogenicity of extracellular proteins.

Marker-less deletion of cctA gene of Clostridium chauvoei
Anaerobe, 2020Clostridium chauvoei causes blackleg disease in domestic animals, especially cattle and sheep. The pathogen produces several toxins including CctA - a hemolysin and protective antigen. Molecular pathogenesis of the disease is poorly understood, possibly due to lack of genetic manipulation tools for C. chauvoei.

Responses of Hamsters and Guinea Pigs to Antigens of Clostridium chauvoei
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1972SUMMARY Hamsters and guinea pigs were used as alternate test animals in potency assays of Clostridium chauvoei-containing bacterins when the first standard requirement (sr) was issued by Veterinary Biologies Division (VBD) in 1962. Conflicting test results were obtained on many of the same serials when the commercial laboratory used hamsters and VBD ...
