Cloning and expression of a gene encoding the flagellin of Clostridium chauvoei
Veterinary Microbiology, 2000Clostridium chauvoei is a causative agent of blackleg and the major protective antigen of the organism is the flagellar protein. Using an Escherichia coli expression library of the C. chauvoei Okinawa strain, we isolated the fliC gene encoding the flagellin protein.

An indirect hemagglutination test for the detection of antibodies to clostridium chauvoei
Veterinary Microbiology, 1985An indirect hemagglutination (IHA) test using sonicated extract as the antigen was developed for the detection of antibodies to Clostridium chauvoei. This antigen can be adsorbed onto glutaraldehyde-fixed sheep red blood cells treated with tannic acid and can be destroyed by trypsin and heat treatment.

Purification and sensitivity of Clostridium chauvoei hemolysin to various erythrocytes
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2006Using ammonium sulphate fractionation, the Clostridium chauvoei hemolysin was purified by cation exchange chromatography and sephacryl S-100 gel filtration. Clinical signs are not often observed in affected calves due to the peracute nature of the disease, but may include fever, lameness, and swelling and crepitation over large muscle groups, followed by collapse and death.
