Identification of the endoglucanase encoded by the celB gene of Clostridium thermocellum

Biochimie, 1983
The endoglucanase encoded by the celB gene of Clostridium thermocellum was purified from an E. coli strain carrying and expressing the C. thermocellum gene cloned in the plasmid pBR322. The preparation showed two active bands, with Mr 55,000 and 53,000, presumably derived from the primary translation product by proteolysis.

Co-transcription of the celC gene cluster in Clostridium thermocellum

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2011
Clostridium thermocellum, an anaerobic, thermophilic, and ethanogenic bacterium produces a large cellulase complex termed the cellulosome and many free glycosyl hydrolases. Most cellulase genes scatter around the genome. We mapped the transcripts of the six-gene cluster celC-glyR3-licA-orf4-manB-celT and determined their transcription initiation sites ...

The cellulolytic enzyme complex of Clostridium thermocellum is very large

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985
The cellulolytic enzyme system bound to cellulose during the early stages of growth of C. thermocellum on this substrate was resolved into two major complexes. These complexes, as viewed by electron microscopy, are spherical particles with diameters of 210 A and 610 A and calculated molecular weights of 4.2 million and 102 million daltons, respectively.

Mapping of mRNA encoding endoglucanase A from Clostridium thermocellum

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1986
The size and location of the 5' end of celA mRNA encoding endoglucanase A of Clostridium thermocellum were investigated in C. thermocellum and in an Escherichia coli clone that carries and expresses the celA gene. In E. coli, the 5' end of celA mRNA was located 134 bp upstream from the initiation codon and 10 bp downstream from a sequence homologous to

Thermostable, ammonium-activated malic enzyme of Clostridium thermocellum

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1981
"Malic" enzyme (L-malate:NADP+ oxidoreductase (oxaloacetate-decarboxylating, EC 1.1.1.40) was purified from Clostridium thermocellum by DEAE-cellulose, agarose-NADP and Sephadex G-200 column chromatography. The 117-fold purified "malic" enzyme displayed a maximum activity of 135 units/mg at 40 degrees C and represented 0.8% of the total cell protein ...
