Dual‐Responsive Yarn‐Based Artificial Muscles for Adaptive Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the conscious movements of skeletal muscle, a novel hybrid yarn‐based artificial muscle (HYAM) coupling moisture actuation with controllable recovery is developed. This unique design increases actuation stroke by 128% and shortens recovery time by 91%. This unique design enhances the actuation stroke by 128% and reduces the recovery time by

Leaky‐Integrate‐Fire Neuron via Synthetic Antiferromagnetic Coupling and Spin‐Orbit Torque

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A spintronic leaky‐integrate‐and‐fire neuron is realized using Spin Orbit Torque driven domain‐wall motion for integration and synthetic antiferromagnetic coupling for the leaky process. The specialized Hall‐bar geometry enables controlled DW dynamics, achieving repeatable integration and firing events. This compact, CMOS‐compatible design highlights a

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Wearable Cooling Textiles of Thermal Conduction and Sweat Transfer for Personal Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructs a three‐dimensional thermal‐conductive pathway using biomass‐based fibers. The thermally conductive composite fibers were designed into Janus‐structured fabrics. The wearable cooling textile exhibits unidirectional moisture‐wicking properties (476% index), a high water evaporation rate (5209.92 g/m2/day), and effective skin ...

Neuromorphic Motor Control with Electrolyte‐Gated Organic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Electrolyte‐gated organic synaptic transistor (EGOST)‐based neuromorphic motor control systems integrate sensing, processing, and actuation by mimicking biological synapses. With advantages such as low power consumption, tunable synaptic plasticity, and mechanical flexibility, they are emerging as next‐generation core technologies for real‐time ...

The Shape of a Benedictine Monastery: The SaintGall Ontology (Extended Version)

open access: yes, 2018
We present an OWL 2 ontology representing the Saint Gall plan, one of the most ancient documents arrived intact to us, which describes the ideal model of a Benedictine monastic complex that inspired the design of many European monasteries.Comment: 10 ...

Static inverse modelling of cloth

open access: yes, 2021
This thesis deals with the direct simulation and inverse design of garments in the presence of frictional contact. The shape of draped garments results from the slenderness of the fabric, which can be represented in mechanics by a thin elastic plate or shell, and from its interaction with the body through dry friction.

Revealing Ambipolar Charge Transport in BTBT‐Based D–A–D Molecules via Photo‐MIS‐CELIV Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
We report a new family of D–A–D molecules based on BTBT and BTBTOx4 as central π‐conjugated cores. Using photo‐MIS‐CELIV, we measured hole and electron mobilities and investigated the role of molecular structure. BTBTOx4 derivatives show ambipolar behavior and intrinsic p‐doping, while BTBT analogues are unipolar with higher mobility.

Neural Appearance Model for Cloth Rendering

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum
AbstractThe realistic rendering of woven and knitted fabrics has posed significant challenges throughout many years. Previously, fiber‐based micro‐appearance models have achieved considerable success in attaining high levels of realism. However, rendering such models remains complex due to the intricate internal scatterings of hundreds of fibers within
