A Multicenter Comparison of Carbapenem-Nonsusceptible Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa Rates in the US (2016 to 2020): Facility-Reported Rates versus Rates Based on Updated Clinical Laboratory and Standards Institute Breakpoints

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Adoption of revised antimicrobial susceptibility breakpoints is often slow, potentially leading to underreporting of antimicrobial resistance. We compared facility-reported rates of carbapenem nonsusceptibility (NS; intermediate or resistant) with NS ...

Upcycling Pomegranate Peel Into Functional Yoghurt: Chemical Profile, Antioxidant Capacity, and Anti–Staphylococcus aureus Activity

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Pomegranate peel extract enhanced the nutritional, physicochemical, and microbiological qualities of yoghurt. It is a rich source of polyphenolic compounds that eliminates Staphylococcus aureus in yoghurt at 0.1% and 0.3% concentrations without altering its pH value. ABSTRACT The use of natural additives, particularly pomegranate peel extract (PPE), to

Integrated ESR and PLT‐H Measurement Using the BC‐6800 Plus Hematology Analyzer: A Comprehensive Analytical Evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the analytical performance of the Mindray BC‐6800 Plus hematology analyzer, focusing on integrated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hybrid platelet counting (PLT‐H). Results demonstrated excellent background suppression, precision, linearity, and robustness across different modes and analyzers, confirming its reliability ...

Establishment of Reference Interval for CA72‐4 in Healthy Adults in Shenzhen, China

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
We established a reference interval (RI) for serum CA72‐4 in healthy adults in Shenzhen, China, based on data from 2614 individuals. Using CLSI EP28‐A3c guidelines, we determined an upper reference limit of 8.5 U/mL, which significantly reduced false‐positive results compared to the manufacturer's cutoff.

Methods for Antifungal Susceptibility Testing of the Cryptococcus neoformans/C. gattii Complex: Strengths and Limitations

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2023
When method-dependent categorical endpoints are available, namely either BPs or ECVs, MICs could aid in selecting the best treatment agent(s). BPs can categorize an isolate as either susceptible or resistant while the ECVs/ECOFFs can distinguish the wild

Lipid Profile Alterations Across Coronary Heart Disease, Metabolic Syndrome, and Nephrotic Syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
CHD, MetS, and NS exhibit distinct dyslipidemia patterns. TC, TG, ApoB, ApoE, and sdLDL‐C are key markers for disease differentiation. This study found that elevated TC and sdLDL‐C were key pathogenic factors in CHD. In contrast, TG and ApoB played significant roles in the pathogenesis of MetS.

Prolonged Turnaround Time of the Hematology Laboratory and Related Factors in the South Gondar Zone, North West Ethiopia, Multi‐Centered Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Long turnaround times were prevalent in the hematology laboratories of South Gonder zone hospitals, predominantly as a result of staff incompetence. Clotted blood samples, low blood fill levels, and the day of the week were significant factors linked to delays, with samples collected on Friday having a higher likelihood of prolonged turnaround time ...
