Financial development and convergence clubs [PDF]
This paper studies the economic development process, measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), for a large panel of countries. We propose a methodology that identifies groups of countries (convergence clubs) that show similar GDP structures, while allowing for changes in club memberships over time. As a second step we analyze the short-run and long-run

Convergence clubs in the regions of Greece
Applied Economics Letters, 2004Although there have been numerous studies on economic convergence, at both national and regional levels, the concept of club convergence has received far less attention. A convergence club implies the existence of a set of economies that in the long run are driven to a common steady-state position.

Technology adoption and club convergence [PDF]
A model of regional convergence is developed in which the pattern of convergence is attributed to the rate of technological adoption across regions. If absorptive abilities vary across regions, convergence is constrained within a certain group of regions that share common structural characteristics.

CONVERGENCE CLUBS AND ENDOGENOUS GROWTH
Oxford Review of Economic Policy, 1992Recent data indicate a wide disparity in the growth performance of different nations. Such disparities have usually been taken to imply that there is to much catching up or convergence taking place. Using a modified version of the endogenous growth approach, we show that convergence is occurring but in a non-equalizing manner.

Convergence Clubs in Aggregate Efficiency
2020This chapter studies convergence in aggregate efficiency across developed and developing countries, respectively. Through the lens of a non-linear dynamic factor model, the cross-country dynamics of aggregate efficiency are evaluated over the 1990–2014 period. Results reject the hypothesis that all countries would eventually converge to a common steady-

Convergence Clubs in Labor Productivity
2020This chapter studies convergence in labor productivity across developed and developing countries, respectively. Through the lens of a non-linear dynamic factor model, the cross-country dynamics of potential GDP per worker are evaluated over the 1990–2014 period.

Human capital and club convergence in Italian regions [PDF]
The aim of the study is to investigate the presence of “convergence clubs” among Italian regions applying the stochastic notion of convergence. Regions are sorted according to human capital accumulation indicators using the Classification and Regression Tree Analysis (CART).

Inequality, persistence of the informal economy, and club convergence
World Development, 2020Abstract Several new dualistic models have re-examined the causes of the informal economy and have made testable predictions about the long-lasting role of inequality. We test these predictions using historical indicators of inequality, dating back to the 1700s, and data on the informal economy across 138 countries over the 1991–2015 period.
