High-quality genome sequence of white lupin provides insight into soil exploration and seed quality

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
White lupin is an annual crop cultivated for protein rich seeds and can produce cluster roots for efficient phosphate acquisition. Here, the authors generate high quality genome assemblies of a cultivated accession, a landrace, and a wild relative and ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Understanding the origin of reindeer riding in Northeast Asia through animal paleopathology and collaborative archaeology

open access: yesArctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research
The innovation of reindeer transport has transformed human societies across Northeast Asia. Tracing the prehistory of reindeer domestication and riding, however, has proven challenging.

Root Differentiation of Agricultural Plant Cultivars and Proveniences Using FTIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
The differentiation of roots of agricultural species is desired for a deeper understanding of the belowground root interaction which helps to understand the complex interaction in intercropping and crop-weed systems.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Combined cellular phenotyping and high-throughput sequencing analysis reveals the symbiotic relationships between different types of macadamia root systems and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
Macadamia nuts, scientifically designated as Macadamia integrifolia, are a highly valuable crop that originated in Australia. This study provides a comprehensive examination of the symbiotic relationships between various macadamia root systems and ...

Collaborative and collective! Reflexive coordination and the dynamics of open innovation in clusters [PDF]

open access: yes
Economic geography increasingly conceptualises "innovation as a collective action" (Storper, 1996). However, cluster literature often reduces the collective dimension to the circulation of knowledge between local-regional organisations based on various ...

Periodicities of T and Y-systems, dilogarithm identities, and cluster algebras II: Types C_r, F_4, and G_2

open access: yes, 2010
We prove the periodicities of the restricted T and Y-systems associated with the quantum affine algebra of type C_r, F_4, and G_2 at any level. We also prove the dilogarithm identities for these Y-systems at any level.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

What Is Beyond Hyperbola Detection and Characterization in Ground-Penetrating Radar Data?—Implications from the Archaeological Site of Goting, Germany

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Hyperbolae in radargrams are caused by a variety of small subsurface objects. The analysis of their curvature enables the determination of propagation velocity in the subsurface, which is important for exact time-to-depth conversion and migration and ...
