Effect of Time of Cluster Thinning Grapevines [PDF]
ABSTRACT Mature ‘Vidal blanc’ and ‘Chardonnay’ (Vitis sp.) grapevines were cluster thinned at different times to determine the influence on vine growth and fruiting. Cluster thinning to one cluster per shoot decreased yield and increased juice soluble solids concentrations.

In guava plants, production pruning can be performed twice a year, and the return of growth is dependent on the physiological responses that are altered by the different cultivation environments and adopted management.

Background Cluster thinning is an agronomic practice in which a proportion of berry clusters are removed from the vine to increase the source/sink ratio and improve the quality of the remaining berries. Until now no transcriptomic data have been reported

The cluster thinning is a method of the yield regulation. With the removal one part of the clusters, the yield pro leaf area will be lower, hereby the grape and wine quality will be improved. The regulation of the yield can lead to further advantages: the

The grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is managed to balance the ratio of leaf area (source) to fruit mass (sink). Over cropping in the grapevine may reveal itself as spontaneous fruit abortion, delayed ripening, or as alternate bearing.
