A class of constant modulus algorithms for uniform linear arrays with a conjugate symmetric constraint [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A class of constant modulus algorithms (CMAs) subject to a conjugate symmetric constraint is proposed for blind beamforming based on the uniform linear array structure.

The nature of the recent extreme outburst of the Herbig Be/FU Ori binary Z CMa

open access: yes, 2009
Z CMa is a binary system which consists of two young stars: A Herbig AeBe component "Z CMa NW" embedded in a dust cocoon and a less massive component "Z CMa SE", which is classified as a FU Orionis type star.

Recursions of Symmetry Orbits and Reduction without Reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We consider a four-dimensional PDE possessing partner symmetries mainly on the example of complex Monge-Amp\`ere equation (CMA). We use simultaneously two pairs of symmetries related by a recursion relation, which are mutually complex conjugate for CMA ...

Four-colour photometry of eclipsing binaries. XLI uvby light curves for AD Bootis, HW Canis Majoris, SW Canis Majoris, V636 Centauri, VZ Hydrae, and WZ Ophiuchi

open access: yes, 2008
CONTEXT: Accurate mass, radius, and abundance determinations from binaries provide important information on stellar evolution, fundamental to central fields in modern astrophysics and cosmology.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Probing the Canis Major stellar over-density as due to the Galactic warp

open access: yes, 2004
Proper-motion, star counts and photometric catalog simulations are used to explain the detected stellar over-density in the region of Canis Major (CMa), claimed to be the core of a disrupted dwarf galaxy (Martin et al. 2004, Bellazzini et al.

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Alternative Restart Strategies for CMA-ES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper focuses on the restart strategy of CMA-ES on multi-modal functions. A first alternative strategy proceeds by decreasing the initial step-size of the mutation while doubling the population size at each restart.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.
