Numerical modelling of CMAS infiltration and dimensionless numbers of anti-infiltration designs of thermal barrier coatings

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Resistance to calcium–magnesium–alumina–silicate (CMAS) infiltration and corrosion is a crucial problem for safely applying thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) in advanced aero engines.

Impaired Chaperone‐Mediated Autophagy Accelerates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Inducing MIDN Accumulation to Target TSC2 for Proteasomal Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates how chaperone‐mediated autophagy (CMA) regulates intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Under normal homeostasis (B), CMA degrades cytoplasmic Midnolin (MIDN) to maintain proteostasis. Under inflammatory stress (A), impaired CMA leads to cytoplasmic MIDN accumulation.

High temperature interaction of Y4Al2O9/Y2O3 under CMAS exposure: Mechanism of outstanding corrosion resistance through composition design to accelerate reaction-induced CMAS consumption

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
The search for new materials with reliable molten calcium–magnesium–alumino–silicate (CMAS) resistance at elevated temperatures is important for the development of advanced aeroengines.

Expanded Phenotype Associated With an Intronic PPP1R12A Variant: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autosomal dominant PPP1R12A‐related genitourinary and/or brain malformation syndrome is a recently described multisystem disorder caused by loss‐of‐function variants in the protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 12a (PPP1R12A) gene. To date, 22 affected individuals have been reported with variable brain malformations and genitourinary ...

Role of microstructure geometry and CMAS viscosity in CMAS Infiltration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
-The most successful strategy to date to reduce the harmful effect of CMAS on TBC is by dissolution of elements from the TBC that form a blocking phase such as apatite in the case of gadolinium zirconate.

Inter-Professional and Methodological Agreement in Using the Cutting Movement Assessment Score (CMAS)

open access: yesBiomechanics, 2023
Background: The cutting movement assessment score (CMAS) provides a qualitative assessment of the side-step cutting (S-SC) technique. Previous research has been undertaken primarily by biomechanists experienced with S-SC evaluations.

COX14 Variants Are Associated With Mitochondrial Complex IV Deficiency Nuclear Type 10 (MC4DN10)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT COX14 encodes a transmembrane protein essential for cytochrome c oxidase (COX) complex assembly. A homozygous missense variant in COX14 was reported in three siblings from a single consanguineous family with severe, fatal infantile mitochondrial complex IV deficiency nuclear type 10 (MC4DN10; MIM# 619053).

In-situ observation and mechanism of calcium–magnesium–alumina–silicate (CMAS) melts-induced degradation of RE2SiO5 (RE = Tb, Dy, Ho, Y, Er, Tm, and Yb) ceramics at 1500 °C

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2023
Rare earth (RE) silicate is one of the most promising environmental barrier coatings for silicon-based ceramics in gas turbine engines. However, calcium–magnesium–alumina–silicate (CMAS) corrosion becomes much more serious and is the critical challenge ...
