Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A behavioral model for co-design [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
With chip size reaching one million transistors, the complexity of VLSI algorithms - i.e., algorithms implemented as a digital VLSI circuit - is approaching that of software algorithms - i.e., algorithms implemented as code. However, the design methods for circuits that are commonly found in textbooks resemble the low-level machine language programming

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Research on coal-geothermal collaborative exploration system in deep mines

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
Under the trend of deep mining of coal resources, the problem of high temperature heat damage in mines is becoming increasingly serious, the heat source that causes high temperature heat damage in mines is actually sustainably used geothermal energy ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A joint real-time SOC estimation method for energy storage batteries

open access: yesZhejiang dianli
Accurately estimating the state of charge (SOC) of energy storage batteries is of paramount importance for achieving balanced charging and discharging, and mitigating capacity degradation caused by overcharging and overdischarging. In view of the complex

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Rail Transit Platform Screen Door Design in Flexible Marshalling Operation Scenarios

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] In the context of green-smart integration, flexibly marshalled trains require PSD (platform screen door) systems to be compatible due to marshalling variations.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
