Non-susceptibility trends among methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from blood cultures [PDF]
Coagulase-negative staphylococci are a significant cause of hospital-acquired bacteremias. There is an increase of infections induced by methicillin-resistant strains, with growing resistance to other antibiotics.

Pathogenic conversion of coagulase-negative staphylococci [PDF]
Humans and animals are colonized by members of the genus Staphylococcus, however only some of these species evolved to cause invasive disease. The genetic basis for conversion of commensal staphylococci into pathogens is not known. We hypothesized that Staphylococcus aureus genes for coagulation and agglutination in vertebrate blood (coa, vwb and clfA)

Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci Pathogenomics [PDF]
Coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS) are skin commensal bacteria. Besides their role in maintaining homeostasis, CoNS have emerged as major pathogens in nosocomial settings. Several studies have investigated the molecular basis for this emergence and identified multiple putative virulence factors with regards to Staphylococcus aureus pathogenicity ...

Biotyping coagulase-negative staphylococci [PDF]
The biochemical profiles obtained with Staph-Ident (Analytab Products, Plainview, N.Y.) panels were combined with the results of adherence and synergistic hemolysis tests to define biotypes among 1,064 clinical isolates representing eight species of coagulase-negative staphylococci.

The ability of biofilm formation seems to play an important role in the virulence of staphylococci. However, studies reporting biofilm formation of coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from animals are still very scarce.

Lysogeny In Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci [PDF]
Summary Lysogenicity in coagulase-negative staphylococci was tested by incubating the strains in the presence of Mitomycin C. Among 173 strains examined, 45 were found to release phage. Twenty-eight of these phages were obtained from 90 strains belonging to Staphylococcus epidermidis biotype 1 (Baird-Parker, 1965).

Methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci in healthy dogs
The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of coagulase-negative staphylococci in healthy dogs and to determine whether methicillin-resistant staphylococci expressed the mecA gene.

Deterministic model to evaluate the impact of lactational treatment of subclinical mastitis due to coagulase-negative staphylococci [PDF]
Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) are the most frequently isolated bacteria from milk samples in several studies worldwide. Despite their relative frequency, specific measures aiming at their control are not well established. One possible measure to
