Routine preoperative coagulation screening detects a rare bleeding disorder.

open access: yesAnesthesia and Analgesia, 2009
Factor X deficiency is a rare hereditary coagulation disorder. We report a case of congenital factor X deficiency diagnosed preoperatively in an 8-yr-old female child scheduled to undergo corrective surgery for congenital thoracolumbar kyphoscoliosis ...

Agglomeration of Nanoparticles Inhibits Solvent‐Driven Ligand Stripping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This article investigates how solvent quality influences agglomeration and ligand stripping of oleylamine‐coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles using experimental techniques and atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. It demonstrates how poor solvents, such as ethanol, induce nanoparticle agglomeration and hinder ligand stripping through interdigitation.

Role of the blood coagulation cascade in hepatic fibrosis.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology - Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2018
Liver is the primary source of numerous proteins that are critical for normal function of the blood coagulation cascade. Because of this, diseases of the liver, particularly when affiliated with severe complications like cirrhosis, are associated with ...

How to Manufacture Photonic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Metamaterials boast applications such as invisibility and “hyperlenses” with resolution beyond the diffraction limit, but these applications haven’t been exploited in earnest and the market for them hasn’t grown much likely because facile and economical methods for fabricating them without defect has not emerged.

Successful management of coagulation dysfunction in a patient with fulminant myocarditis: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
Fulminant myocarditis (FM) is an acute, diffuse inflammatory myocardial disease characterized by abrupt onset and extremely rapid progression. Patients typically exhibit haemodynamic abnormalities that may lead to respiratory failure, liver and renal ...
