Mechanical properties and damage constitutive model of coal in coal-rock combined body

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2018
Abstract Coal and rock mass bear loads together in underground engineering such as coal mining and roadway support, resulting in different mechanical properties from those of pure coal and rock mass. Accurately obtaining the mechanical properties of coal in coal-rock combined body can help to properly understand the deformation and failure ...

Impact of gas adsorption-induced coal damage on the evolution of coal permeability

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2018
Abstract During the injection of CO 2 into coalbed for geologic sequestration, CO 2 is likely both adsorbed and dissolved in coals, and swells them slightly. When coal is swollen due to the adsorption and dissolution, the induced strain is relieved as the coal structure rearranges to a lower free energy state, causing coal damage and resulting in ...

Experimental study of water blocking damage on coal

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2017
Water blocking damage, caused by the invasion of external fluids into the coal seams during hydraulic fracturing, is one of the reasons causing coalbed methane wells uneconomic in most areas of China. This paper presents an experimental study of water blocking damage on coal based on the measurements of surface tension, contact angle, gas-phase ...

Genetic damage in coal and uranium miners

Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis, 2021
Mining has a direct impact on the environment and on the health of miners and is considered one of the most hazardous occupations worldwide. Miners are exposed to several occupational health risks, including genotoxic substances, which may cause adverse health effects, such as cancer.

Assessment of Genetic Damage in Coal Miners of Punjab, Pakistan

Biological Trace Element Research, 2022
Coal miners are continuously exposed to coal mine dust and airborne particulate that act as a potential risk to their health. The present study evaluates the DNA damage in coal miners using the Buccal Micronucleus Cytome (BMCyt) assay. The samples of the blood and buccal epithelial cells of 40 coal miners and 20 control subjects were taken from coal ...

Damage to Coal Permeability During Hydraulic Fracturing

Low Permeability Reservoirs Symposium, 1991
ABSTRACT Coalbed methane wells are routinely fracture stimulated using gelled fluids and proppants. Surprisingly, there is no published report on the compatibility of the coals with fracturing fluids containing polymers, surfactants, biocides, friction reducers, and other chemicals.

Coal damage mechanism in the developing process of coal and gas outburst

Journal of Coal Science and Engineering (China), 2009
Based on the damage analysis of elliptical aperture, the mechanism of coal damage in the developing process of coal and gas outburst was researched. The results show that the damage to coal by gas is mainly caused by the concentrated tensile stress appearing near the endpoint of the pores.

Damage and Permeability Development in Coal During Unloading

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2013
One of the key issues in protective seam mining is the pressure relief and permeability improvement effect. In this paper, the results of X-ray CT scanning experiments and permeability experiments using reconstituted coal specimens subjected to the same stress path and the same effective confining pressure (confining pressure minus pore pressure) are ...
