Vowel hiatus is dispreferred in many languages of the world. Xitsonga, an understudied cross-border southern Bantu language spoken in South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, employs a set of four hiatus resolution strategies: glide formation ...

The segregated $\Lambda$-coalescent [PDF]
We construct an extension of the Lambda-coalescent to a spatial continuum and analyse its behaviour. Like the Lambda-coalescent, the individuals in our model can be separated into (i) a dust component and (ii) large blocks of coalesced individuals. We identify a five phase system, where our phases are defined according to changes in the qualitative ...

Fast "coalescent" simulation [PDF]
Abstract Background The amount of genome-wide molecular data is increasing rapidly, as is interest in developing methods appropriate for such data. There is a consequent increasing need for methods that are able to efficiently simulate such data.

Block Copolymers: Emerging Building Blocks for Additive Manufacturing
This review addresses how block copolymer (BCP) physics and rheology have led to the widespread use of BCPs in advanced additive manufacturing techniques, with particular emphasis on the untapped potential of these nanostructured materials toward achieving multi‐scale architected materials with unique, programmable material properties.

Coalescent Simulation with msprime [PDF]
AbstractCoalescent simulation is a fundamental tool in modern population genetics. The library provides unprecedented scalability in terms of both the simulations that can be performed and the efficiency with which the results can be processed. We show how coalescent models for population structure and demography can be constructed using a simple ...

Proteins, Processing, and Properties of Adhesive Fluid Condensates Purified from Mussels
Mussels exhibit an unmatched proficiency for adhering to wet surfaces in salty environments—a remarkable ability that could inspire new biomedical and technical glues. The fluid protein condensates used to form the underwater mussel glue are extracted, reconstituted and characterized with advanced spectroscopy and nanomechanical analysis, revealing ...

Single Rising Bubble Motion in Aqueous Solution of Electrolyte
Effects of electrolytes on bubble coalescence are investigated experimentally from fluid dynamic point of view. Collisions of a bubble with free surface in two kinds of liquids, namely, ultrapure water and sodium chloride solution, are observed using a ...

This study presents a versatile approach to harnessing miscible aqueous domains, enabling liquid‐in‐liquid compartmentalization using a barrier formed in situ rather than bulk immiscibility. The barrier forms upon the complexation of multifunctional nanoparticles and ligands at the contact boundary of aqueous phases.
