Analysis on a Novel Coaxial Magnetic Gear

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
This paper analyzed the high efficient performance of a novel magnetic gear, which offers several advantages compared to mechanical gears in terms of reducing maintenance, improving reliability and inherent overload protection. The magnetic gear, based on step motor principle, was analyzed on transmission torque both statically and dynamically.

Development of a novel Coaxial Magnetic Gear

2017 15th International Conference on Electrical Machines, Drives and Power Systems (ELMA), 2017
Magnetic Gears (MGs) offer many advantages compared to mechanical gears such as reduced maintenance, high reliability and inherent over load protection. Among various MGs, a Surface Permanent Magnet (SPM) type Coaxial Magnetic Gear (CMG), which may be accepted to be a classical CMG, is may be preferable owing to its high torque transmission capability.

Dynamic Torque Control Efficiency of Coaxial Magnetic Gears

2020 XI National Conference with International Participation (ELECTRONICA), 2020
Dynamic torque and speed control of Magnetic Gears (MG) affects their total efficiency, and often appears as output rotor slipping which reduces its speed and torque. This paper presents a dynamic model of a coaxial MG with a control system to estimate efficiency of power transmission.

Analysis and optimization of coaxial magnetic gears

2016 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM), 2016
Coaxial magnetic gears with permanent magnets have a very simple structure and performance comparable to that of mechanical gears. The paper describes an analytical simplified approach for the analysis and design procedure. The mathematical model is one-dimensional: only the variation of electromagnetic quantities as function of angular position is ...

Analysis of the Vibration Characteristics of Coaxial Magnetic Gear

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2016
This paper investigates the vibration and noise characteristics of the coaxial magnetic gear (CMG) by the electromagnetic forces. In the CMG, the vibration and noise can be generated by the exciting forces acting on three parts, namely, low-speed rotor, high-speed rotor, and modulating pieces, respectively.

Comparison of Reluctance and Surface Permanent Magnet Coaxial Magnetic Gears

2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020
The noncontact operation of magnetic gears offers significant potential advantages over mechanical gears. Reluctance magnetic gears (RMGs) have been proposed as an alternative to surface permanent magnet gears (SPMGs) at high speeds. This paper explains the operating principles of RMGs and provides a thorough parametric comparison between RMGs and ...

A new coaxial magnetic gear using stationary permanent magnet ring

2013 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2013
This paper proposes a new topology of coaxial magnetic gear (CMG) using stationary permanent magnet ring (PMR) between the permanent-magnet (PM) inner rotor and the salient-pole outer rotor without PMs, aiming at improving the robustness of the outer rotor while the torque density is maintained. The fundamental operation of the proposed topology is the

Structural Optimization of a Novel Coaxial Magnetic Gear

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Compared with the traditional mechanical gear, permanent magnetic gear has some unique advantages, such as high efficiency, noise free, zero friction, and overload protection and so on. However, its applications are always constrained due to its unstable or not smooth torque produced by this kind of magnetic gear. Based on the structure of the magnetic

A Coaxial Magnetic Gear With Consequent-Pole Rotors

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2017
In this paper, a novel coaxial magnetic gear (MG) is proposed, in which both permanent magnet and consequent poles are employed on the inner and outer rotors. The MG is expected with improved torque transmission capability by increasing the effective magnetic flux and offering additional reluctance torque.

An improved coaxial magnetic gear using flux focusing

2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2011
This paper presents a new topology of the coaxial magnetic gear (CMG) in which the permanent magnets (PMs) in the outer rotor are magnetized in tangential direction, hence offering the flux-focusing effect. By using the 2D finite element method, the influence of the main design parameters on the maximum pull-out torque of the proposed magnetic gear is ...
