Long‐Lasting Auditory and Vestibular Recovery Following Gene Replacement Therapy in a Novel Usher Syndrome Type 1c Mouse Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that gene replacement therapy using the AAV2/Anc80L65 virus can successfully restore hearing and balance in Ush1c knockout mice. The treatment leads to lasting improvements in both auditory and vestibular functions, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic approach for genetic hearing loss and vestibular disorders in humans ...

Development of a feline model for preclinical research of a new translabyrinthine auditory nerve implant

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
Cochlear implants are among the most successful neural prosthetic devices to date but exhibit poor frequency selectivity and the inability to consistently activate apical (low frequency) spiral ganglion neurons. These issues can limit hearing performance

Y-27632, a ROCK inhibitor, improved laser-induced shock wave (LISW)-induced cochlear synaptopathy in mice

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2021
Recently, a pathological condition called cochlear synaptopathy has been clarified, and as a disorder of the auditory nerve synapses that occurs prior to failure of hair cells, it has been recognized as a major cause of sensorineural hearing loss ...

Anterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion Surgery for Cervical Spondylosis with Concomitant Tinnitus: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 15, Issue 1, Page 133-140, January 2023., 2023
Anterior cervical decompression and fusion can effectively alleviate tinnitus associated with cervical spondylosis. The TFI score and tinnitus loudness were reduced immediately after cervical decompression surgery and this was sustained at 12 months. Objective Cervical spondylosis is often accompanied by tinnitus.

Distribution of catecholamine fibers in the cochlear nucleus of horseshoe bats and mustache bats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The glyoxylic-acid-induced fluorescence technique was applied to demonstrate patterns of catecholaminergic innervation within the auditory brainstem of echolocating bats and the house mouse.

Deciphering Auditory Hyperexcitability in Otogl Mutant Mice Unravels an Auditory Neuropathy Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By investigating auditory hyperexcitability in a mouse model for hereditary deafness, this study identified a subpopulation of afferent neurons of the auditory nerve marked by Otogl expression. Despite their apparently normal hearing, Otogl+/− mice display poor activation of afferent neurons processing loud sounds and an elevation of the middle the ear

Analysis of electrically evoked compound action potential of the auditory nerve in children with bilateral cochlear implants

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2016
INTRODUCTION: The cochlear implant device has the capacity to measure the electrically evoked compound action potential of the auditory nerve. The neural response telemetry is used in order to measure the electrically evoked compound action potential of ...

Development of the stria vascularis and potassium regulation in the human fetal cochlea : insights into hereditary sensorineural hearing loss [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is one of the most common congenital disorders in humans, afflicting one in every thousand newborns. The majority is of heritable origin and can be divided in syndromic and nonsyndromic forms. Knowledge of the expression

A Computational Model of the Electrically or Acoustically Evoked Compound Action Potential in Cochlear Implant Users with Residual Hearing [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: In cochlear implant users with residual acoustic hearing, compound action potentials (CAPs) can be evoked by acoustic (aCAP) or electric (eCAP) stimulation and recorded through the electrodes of the implant. We propose a novel computational model to simulate aCAPs and eCAPs in humans, considering the interaction between combined electric ...
