Experimental Study of Effects of the Third Medium on the Maximum Friction Coefficient between Wheel and Rail for High-Speed Trains

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
The changes of the friction coefficient between wheel and rail affect the wheel-rail adhesion characteristics of high-speed trains. The adhesion state in the wheel-rail contact area could be distinguished by the maximum friction coefficient between wheel

Effect of potato contact parameters on seed metering performance using discrete element method

open access: yesSpanish Journal of Agricultural Research, 2022
Aim of study: To study the effect of potato surface with or without sandy loam soil on seed metering performance, we investigated the motion behaviour of the potato seed particles during the seed metering process using a self-designed across-bridge ...

Methods of calculation of a friction coefficient: Application to the nanotubes

open access: yes, 2003
In this work we develop theoretical and numerical methods of calculation of a dynamic friction coefficient. The theoretical method is based on an adiabatic approximation which allows us to express the dynamic friction coefficient in terms of the time ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Effects of Microscale Texture on the Tribological Behavior of Paper-Based Friction Materials for a Wet Clutch

open access: yesTribology Online, 2015
Paper-based friction materials used for wet clutches in automatic transmissions require various tribological functions such as a high and stable friction coefficient, good μ-V (friction coefficient-sliding velocity) characteristics, heat resistance ...

Friction analysis of kinetic schemes: the friction coefficient [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1995
Friction analysis is proposed as the application of general control analysis to single enzymes to describe the control of elementary kinetic steps on the overall catalytic rate. For each transition, a friction coefficient is defined that measures the sensitivity of the turnover rate to the free energy of the transition state complex of the transition ...

Force autocorrelation function in linear response theory and the origin of friction

open access: yes, 2008
Vanishing of the equilibrium Green-Kubo fluctuation expression for the friction coefficient of a massive particle moving in a finite-volume liquid is usually interpreted as an unphysical consequence of the finite volume. Here I show that it is a physical

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.
