Control failure risk, resistance and enzymatic activity of neurotoxic insecticides in Brazilian populations of Leucoptera coffeella (Lepidoptera: Lyonetiidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Bioassays of 36 Leucoptera coffeella populations revealed resistance to neurotoxic insecticides, control failures of ≤62.9% and enzyme activity variation, with particularly high GST and low AChE levels. Abstract Background Leucoptera coffeella is a key pest of coffee crops in Brazil, causing significant damage by mining coffee leaves.

Accounting for Friendlessness: Stigma and the Quest for an Honorable Self

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
How do people who identify as friendless make sense of their condition in a moment when friendship is extolled for the support and satisfaction it offers? This article draws on interviews with 21 adults in an Atlantic Canadian city. We argue that our interviewees were rarely at ease with their friendlessness and were at pains to recover an honorable ...

Remote Monitoring of Coffee Leaf Miner Infestation Using Fuzzy Logic and the Google Earth Engine Platform

open access: yesAgriEngineering
The coffee leaf miner (Leucoptera coffeella) is a major pest of coffee crops and can cause significant economic losses. Early monitoring is essential to support decision-making for its control.

REPRODUCING OPERATIONAL LANDSCAPES: The Rock Mining for Indonesia's New Capital City

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Indonesia's new capital city is designed to become a green and sustainable city. In this article, we examine the (un)sustainability of the process through which the city is coming into being. Using the sociospatial theory of planetary urbanization, we trace the dialectical relationship between the new city and sites beyond it to show how ...

Study of simple sequence repeat markers from coffee expressed sequences associated to leaf miner resistance Estudo de marcadores microssatélites em seqüências expressas de café associadas à resistência ao bicho-mineiro

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2007
The objective of this work was to identify expressed simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers associated to leaf miner resistance in coffee progenies. Identification of SSR markers was accomplished by directed searches on the Brazilian Coffee Expressed ...

A smartphone application to detection and classification of coffee leaf miner and coffee leaf rust

open access: yes, 2019
Generally, the identification and classification of plant diseases and/or pests are performed by an expert . One of the problems facing coffee farmers in Brazil is crop infestation, particularly by leaf rust Hemileia vastatrix and leaf miner Leucoptera coffeella. The progression of the diseases and or pests occurs spatially and temporarily.

Computer simulation of the coffee leaf miner using sexual Penna aging model [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2008
Forecast models based on climatic conditions are of great interest in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. The success of these models depends, among other factors, on the knowledge of the temperature effect on the pests’ population dynamics. In this direction, a computer simulation was made for the population dynamics of the coffee leaf miner, L.

Leaf Extracts of Coffea racemosa Inhibit Trypsin Activity and Affect Larval Development in Spodoptera frugiperda and Diatraea saccharalis

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Leaf extracts of Coffea racemosa inhibit digestive trypsins and impair the development of two major lepidopteran pests, Spodoptera frugiperda and Diatraea saccharalis. While both species showed significant enzymatic inhibition, biological responses differed markedly. D. saccharalis exhibited high mortality, whereas S.
