Cogging Torque Minimization Strategies in Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

open access: yesIEEE Access
Cogging torque in interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) is caused by variation in magnetic reluctance between permanent magnets and stator slot openings.

Design and development of a high-stiffness, high-resolution torque sensor [PDF]

open access: yes
A sensor has been designed and tested for precise pointing applications. The device is able to sense extremely small rotary motion and is immune to cross-axis forces. The hardware and design characteristics of the torque sensor are presented.

Calculation of Cogging Torque in Hybrid Stepping Motors

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Technology, 2013
When the windings of a hybrid stepping motor are unexcited the permanent magnet’s flux produces cogging torque.  This torque has both desirable and undesirable features depending on the application that the motor is put into. This paper formulates an analytical method for predicting cogging torque using measured flux-linkage data.
