Cogging torque reduction of a permanent magnet canned motor
2016 IEEE 11th Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA), 2016The method of adding auxiliary slots in the stator or rotor is presented to reduce the cogging torque of a permanent magnet (PM) canned motor. Based on the formula of cogging torque, the optimal number of auxiliary slots is derived. A 3D finite element (FE) method is used to analyze the effect of different shapes of auxiliary slots on the cogging ...

Boundary element method in reduction of cogging torque
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1998A method to optimize the cogging torque of a brushless motor with parallel magnetized magnets is presented. The technique is based on the boundary element method. The optimal width of the magnet and the optimal shifts of the consecutive magnets are computed.

A study of cogging torque reduction methods in brushless dc motor
2012 9th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2012The cogging torque is undesirable effect in the brushless dc (BLDC) motor, causing vibration and audible noises. It arises from the rotor permanent magnet interacting with the steel teeth on the stator. This paper studies the various reduction methods of cogging torque when designing a BLDC motor.

Study on cogging torque reduction methods of PM stepping motor
2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005Cogging torque is the main factor that causes a PM stepping motor to be shaken, noisy and even influences its safe operation. After introducing the structure of PM stepping motor, this paper analyzes the effect of the power supply mode on the electromagnetic torque, and the measures to reduce cogging torque of PM stepping motor.

Cogging torque reduction in permanent-magnet synchronous machines with skew
2016 XXII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2016Cogging torque reduction with skewing techniques was explored on the MIT Robotic Cheetah. Skewed machines with either skewed rotors or stators were constructed, tested, and fielded on the robot. Results were compared with a convolution technique for predicting torque waveforms of skewed machines from the torque waveform of the unskewed machine ...

Cogging torque reduction in surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine
2016 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2016This work examines minimization of cogging torque in surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSM). Cogging torque arises due to magnetic interaction between slotted stator and permanent magnets at no load. Fractional slot winding machines have low value of cogging torque as dissimilar positions of the magnets increase the frequency of ...

PMSM cogging torque reduction: Comparison between different shapes of magnet
2012 First International Conference on Renewable Energies and Vehicular Technology, 2012In most of the industrial applications, such as vehicular traction, when a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) can be used, a low cogging torque is required. The air gap variation, the magnet shapes and stator slots forms are the origins of cogging torque.

Reduction of cogging torque by adopting semi circled permanent magnet
2011 1st International Conference on Electrical Energy Systems, 2011In this paper, being based on Fourier expansion and energy method, the analytical expression of cogging torque of permanent magnet (PM) motor is derived, which can be used to analyze the effects of design parameters on cogging torque. Then a new method for reducing cogging torque by adopting semi circled magnetic pole is proposed.

New cogging-torque reduction method for brushless permanent-magnet motors
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2003We present a new design method for reducing cogging torque in brushless permanent-magnet (PM) motors. In our method, the auxiliary slots are put on the pole face of the magnetizing yoke, which results in a not fully magnetized zone (NFMZ) at the PM. Through Fourier expansion of the field and armature functions, the position and shape of the NFMZ that ...
