A Comprehensive Evaluation of Cognitive Biases in LLMs
Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Natural Language Processing for Digital HumanitiesWe present a large-scale evaluation of 30 cognitive biases in 20 state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs) under various decision-making scenarios.

This chapter will describe some implications of using cognitive biases in the decision-making process in social areas such as economic, legal, education, and political. The cognitive bias would be a pattern of deviation in judgment, in which the inferences that we make about other people and/or situations can be illogical.

People are prone to errors and biases that influence their decision-making. These mistakes can lead to bypassing rational thinking and relying on preconceived notions or intuition. Some biases are “hardwired” into the brain.

Rash, Radiculopathy, and Cognitive Biases
Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance, 2019BACKGROUND: Physicians rely on intuition and pattern recognition to rapidly evaluate and treat patients. While the realities of our medical system require liberal use of these heuristics to efficiently make clinical decisions, such thinking patterns are error-prone—leaving the clinician at the whims of their cognitive biases.CASE REPORT: We describe a

This chapter lays out a strategy for defending against cognitive biases. Section 6.1 reviews leading techniques for deliberate reasoning that compensate for various cognitive biases. But selecting relevant countermeasures to a few well-known biases is not sufficient to consistently ward off the Law of Unintended Consequences (LUC).

Cognitive biases affect clinical judgment
BMJ, 2011Berghmans and Schouten highlight the role of cognitive errors in causing delayed diagnoses.1 The problem seemed to be localising the site of a pathological process rather than diagnosing a rare disease. With hindsight, severe back pain, difficulty in walking, and leg spasms should have prompted early magnetic resonance imaging or a specialist …
