Introduction to the Special Issue on Structured Light Coherence
Statistical optics, and optical coherence in particular, developed into a stand-alone branch of physical optics in the second half of the 20th century and has found a number of ground-breaking applications in astronomical measurements, medical ...

Detecting cell death with optical coherence tomography and envelope statistics [PDF]
<p>Currently no standard clinical or preclinical noninvasive method exists to monitor cell death based on morphological changes at the cellular level. In our past work we have demonstrated that quantitative high frequency ultrasound imaging can detect cell death in vitro and in vivo.

At-wavelength characterization of X-ray wavefronts in Bragg diffraction from crystals
The advent of next-generation synchrotron radiation sources and X-ray free-electron lasers calls for high-quality Bragg-diffraction crystal optics to preserve the X-ray beam coherence and wavefront.

Second-harmonic generation of temporally low-coherence light
In this Letter, we study the second-harmonic (SH) generation of temporally low-coherence light using the statistical optics method. By introducing the statistical characteristics of low-coherence light into the nonlinear coupled wave equation, we predict

Modeling for Partially Spatially Coherent Vortex Beams
We propose a method for modeling a wide class of partially spatially coherent vortex beams. It is shown that any member of such beams can be represented as an incoherent superposition of fully coherent vortex models weighted by a non-negative weighting ...

Propagation of a Vector Cosine-Gaussian Correlated Beam Through an Active GRIN Medium
This paper presents a convenient approach that uses the tensor method to study the propagation of a nonuniformly correlated electromagnetic Cosine-Gaussian Schell-model (ECGSM) beam through an active gradient-index (GRIN) medium.
