Improvement of the Burden Column Structure by Controlling the Multicomponent Burden Loading Mode into the Blast Furnace [PDF]

open access: yesProblems of the Regional Energetics, 2023
The purpose of this work was to study the possibility of correcting the shape and position of the plastic zone, as the main element of the structure of the burden column in a blast furnace, by controlling its loading mode.

Application of improved cohesive zone length formula in ice mode I crack propagation

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2022
ObjectivesThe cohesive zone length is the sum of the cohesive element length at the failure edge and the lengths of the other cohesive elements connected to it. The cohesive zone length determines the maximum size of the mesh.

A Numerical Investigation of Delamination Response of CNT/Epoxy Film Interleaved Composite

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In this study, numerical modeling through the cohesive zone theory was performed to simulate the end notch flexure (ENF) test with same conditions of the experimental results of previous study that investigated the effect of a carbon nanotube (CNT)/epoxy

Employing phase‐field descriptions of cohesive zone placements in cohesive fracture simulations [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2022
AbstractCohesive zone models suffer from the fundamental problem that potential crack paths must be determined beforehand. Phase‐field models for (brittle) fracture, that have recently become immensely popular, are able to naturally handle essentially arbitrary crack patterns.

Molecular Dynamics-Based Cohesive Zone Model for Mg/Mg17Al12 Interface

open access: yesMetals, 2020
The fracture of the Mg/Mg17Al12 interface was investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. The interface crack extends in a brittle manner without noticeable plasticity.

A damage criterion based on energy balance for isotropic cohesive zone model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical, Computational and Applied Mechanics, 2022
The objective of this paper is to present an energy damage criterion for cohesive zone models (CZM) within the framework of the non-linear thermodynamics of irreversible processes (TIP).

Applying Membrane Mode Enhanced Cohesive Zone Elements on Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Forming of hybrid bulk metal components might include severe membrane mode deformation of the joining zone. This effect is not reflected by common Traction Separation Laws used within Cohesive Zone Elements that are usually applied for the simulation of ...

Simplified approach for ductile fracture mechanics SSTT and its application to Eurofer97

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2021
The determination of fracture-mechanical properties is often very challenging, because the available standards like ASTM E1820 need specific size-requirements for the specimen dimensions to obtain valid fracture toughness.

A discontinuous Galerkin method for cohesive zone modelling [PDF]

open access: yesFinite Elements in Analysis and Design, 2015
We propose a discontinuous finite element method for small strain elasticity allowing for cohesive zone modeling. The method yields a seamless transition between the discontinuous Galerkin method and classical cohesive zone modeling. Some relevant numerical examples are presented.
