Antimicrobial activity of an iron triple helicate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The prevalence of antibiotic resistance has resulted in the need for new approaches to be developed to combat previously easily treatable infections.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Chromatin: a tunable spring at work inside chromosomes

open access: yes, 2001
This paper focuses on mechanical aspects of chromatin biological functioning. Within a basic geometric modeling of the chromatin assembly, we give for the first time the complete set of elastic constants (twist and bend persistence lengths, stretch ...

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Analysis on Telescoped Coil Defect of Hot Galvanized Strip and Preventing Measures

open access: yesTeshugang, 2011
According to analysis on telescoped coil produced during coiling process of hot galvanized strip, it is obtained that the unmatched coiling tension and the slip of mandrel in sleeve are main causes to bring about telescoped coil defect.

What, if anything, is a Paratrochamminoides? A key to the morphology of the Cretaceous to Cenozoic species of Conglophragmium and Paratrochamminoides (Foraminifera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present a review of the current taxonomical status of the genus Paratrochamminoides Soliman, 1972. We recognise five main subgroups of this genus based upon the following modes of coiling: trochospiral, streptospiral, glomospiral, triloculine or ...

Changes in the structure of tethered chain molecules as predicted by density functional approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We use a version of the density functional theory to study the changes in the height of the tethered layer of chains built of jointed spherical segments with the change of the length and surface density of chains.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Subarachnoid Haemorrhage in Malta : Are outcomes adversely affected due to lack of a local neurovascular service? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Objective: This study was performed to assess the incidence, treatment and outcome of non-traumatic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH) in an island which does not offer a neurovascular service and to determine whether such limitation is associated with a ...

Knots in interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We study the geometry of interacting knotted solitons. The interaction is local and advances either as a three-body or as a four-body process, depending on the relative orientation and a degeneracy of the solitons involved. The splitting and adjoining is
